Please Remember Our Troops!

Let’s support our troops!! Here’s an entire thread devoted specifically towards our loved ones serving our country over in Iraq and other parts of the world right now. Please make a commitment to pray for each of them every day, and make an effort to send cards, letters and care packages to our men and women. They can use any and all encouragement that they can get!

Post pics of your loved ones, and update us on how they are doing. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers every single day!

If you’re interested in writing to any soldier from this thread, then PM and ask for their mailing address. I’d love it if you ladies would write a note to my brother – just to say you were a friend of mine and thought you’d send a quick note of encouragement! Also, I would be more than glad to do that for anyone else!

This is my younger brother, Scott. He’s been in South Korea for a year, and recently just made it safely out to Iraq. He’ll be deployed with the Army for 12 months and then I can finally see him again! Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers…

Here’s my first update on Scott:

We haven’t heard from him in a while, but he finally called my Dad first thing this morning to let us know that he reached camp safely. They go out patrolling in unprotected areas for several days and then come back to camp. He said that he has been sleeping for 3 or 4 hours a night and that there are machine guns and explosives going off constantly. He said the reason they aren’t sleeping much is because they are “spread so thin” with not enough soldiers in the area. Scott says “It’s rough, but OK.”

Scott’s friend, Mayne, left for Iraq a few weeks before he did. The first day that Mayne’s troop got to Iraq, they ran over some land mines and two vehicles were lost. We still haven’t heard anything about Mayne and are hoping that he’s safe.

Jayson's real dad, Mike is a lieutenant in the Air Force. I have a picture I will scan and post it. But he is being deployed (January 22nd) for 6 months to Kyrgyzstan -- it's a small little country -- Map of Kyrgyzstan.

He's not a believer, but he is a bit worried about not coming back. So please keep Lt. Mike Sechler in your prayers.

Amber what a great thread to start! I think your brother is really cute. DH has a single aunt...:wink: :)

Anyways, we have two active military families in our church. One husband just left for Iraq and another just returned. We're not sure how long he'll be home. Both families (DH and I teach most of their kids) are moving away soon. It's breaking my heart to see the kids go and both of the wives that I've gotten to know as well. Their names are Sgt Larry Hufford and Sgt Brad Smith. Thanks ladies.

What a wonderful thread. I would like to add my husband- his name is Steven (I won't include our last name because this is the internet and there might be weird lurkers) and he is a Major in the Air Force.

He is in Iraq and is in a relatively safe location and his job doesn't involve a lot of danger, but prayers always help.

Mike says he is doing fine -- he is actually going to be the guy in charge of his guys -- he is quite excited about that. He says they are doing fine -- he is sharing a room with another guy. So I'm guessing he is living in a dormitory style barracks as opposed to tents. But I just wanted to post an update. He made it there safe and sound.

I have another soldier to add to the list. His name is Patrick Atwell -- he graduated from high school in 2005 and he just left today for the Marine Corps. He is going to San Diego for his basic training and he will be going into EOD for his job -- please keep this extraordinary young man in your prayers. He is a neat guy and a strong believer. He is going to do go things for the Marines. :)

Another update on Mike -- he had to have his appendix removed over the weekend (March 25th). He is now on a 2 week recovery and bored out of his mind. :lol:

Well I know that i'm not American but something very sad has happened here lately with one of our own soldiers. Private Jake Kovco lost his life a couple of weeks ago I think it was. At first his family and everyone else was informed through the media and politicians that he had died in an accident where he had set his rifle of whilst cleaning it. The body was supposed to be returned but there was a mix up and the wrong body was brought to Australia. It was horrible, his wife and mother were very angry and the widow rang the prime minister and apparentally told him off. They now don't even know the circumstances of his death and saying they are not sure if he was cleaning his gun at all at the time - there is an inquiry into his death at the moment. He was only 23 years old or something like that - he was only very young. I feel so badly for the family, especially with the mix up with his body - apparentally the proper body has now arrived in Australia and I read in the paper that his wife was on her way to the mortuary - presumably to identify him.

Wow, Amanda I pray they get some answers soon about him. And please feel free to post about any soldier here -- this thread isn't limited to just American soldiers :)
