hi! I want to see this board SHAKING!!!!

I am Joee, hostess and shameless stalker... oh, and site assistant too!!

I am planting my FIRST GARDEN in YEARS. I am over the moon excited to get this moving!!!

I have my plot.. 6X15 ready to till and plant!!! I have been tracking, and it gets a full 6 hours of sun, so I think it will encourage just about anything to grow! according to my landlord the previous tenants had amazing success so I am really pumped!!

So far I am deadset on zuchinni, squash and tomatoes. I also have a GIANT cabbage plant my son brought home from school as a fun project (( http://bonniecabbageprogram.com/ )) these suckers grow to 40 lbs!!! Its gonna take half my plot LOL!

I am considering more too, like watermelons, strawberries, green peppers... AH! I want to grow everything :)

Hi! I'm planning my first veggie garden ever! :) DH is out buying the wood so we can do a raised bed (very very sandy soil). We are starting small - 4x8 feet. I'm thinking tomatoes, carrots, zucchini definitely. maybe lettuce, peppers, onions or beans?

Watermelons take up a ton of room if I remember correctly from my Grandfather's garden.

YAY!!! How exciting!! I wanted a raised bed too!! We have nasty clay.. but once we tilled it up it seemed to be reasonable soil! I guess we will see LOL!

Yeah, watermelons and zuchinni both will have quite a spread. BUT< you can use a trellis or cage to encourage the branches upwards, rather than out. For Zucchini, as long as you are not allowing it to grow giant, it can support the fruit. I am not sure about the watermelons though?

Are your kids excited? We had to build a fence around ours already LOL! Within minutes I had about 25 tractors and hot wheels and dinosaurs in the bed LOL!!!



We got quite a few plants this weekend! I *think* it was our last frost... and nothing but a warm weather forecast through next weekend, but I am still a little scared to plant just yet!!

For everything else, we got seeds....

I am also going to try the pallet garden for my more tender choices, like the lettuces!

I'm planting something! For sure putting strawberries in a big pot and I'm not sure about the rest. I will be finding the herb bed under the weeds soon.

Since we are house hunting I'm not having a big garden this year. I do have two of those hanging tomato planters and will get those going in another few weeks. Seattle weather isn't pepper and tomato friendly this early. Also have the seeds out to scatter some lettuce in the flower beds. :) And I must have cucumbers.

Watermelons do take a bit of room but sometimes you can train some of the space hogs up a fence (probably want to grow a small variety of melon, huh?) Keep it up. I'd love to see everyone's plans.

Hi! I did not realize there was a gardening board. I planted a few weeks ago. I have a 7x11 raised bed Vertical garden. I took 2x4's and built a trellis with garden wire for the plants to grow up. I have squash, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, carrots, letus, tomatoes, and peppers all in my little space. This is my second year with a raised garden but my first year with the wooden frame. Last year I got a ton of tomatoes and peppers, but not a lot of anything else. I am hoping to learn from last years experiences and go from there.

OHH how cool! I am jealous of your raised bed!! I wanted one too... lol!

I was walking my son to school the other day (we live in a very rural, almost farm community) and a neighbor has goats and chickens and horses. he offered me ALL the compost i could TAKE! WOOHOOOO!!! I am so excited!!!

Yay! I had to buy all of my dirt for my raised bed by the bag from Walmart. Very expensive, but it was a one time expense last year. This year I added the frame, but that is it.

EEK! yeah that would get pricey! I chinced out and got 3 bags of amender and tilled it into the existing soil.. I hope it works :)

So jealous you all get to plant! ONE MORE weekend for us! I feel like I am babysitting all those sprouts LOL!

Another couple weeks til planting for us. Nights are still cold in my area for most veggies. I'm getting excited though! :)

Another couple of weeks for us too. Usually by the end of May we are good to plant outside. This year I got two little "raised" beds for the girls. They are only like 6 inches high, but 4 feet by 4 feet big. They are SOOOOO excited to garden more with me this year. They said they wanted to plant bananas and pineapples! Not really what we can plant in New York!
