I had luck adding water to get green beans, peas, and carrots (though not the cooking water for carrots) to a thin store-bought baby food consistency. It took more water than I would've thought though.

I posted this under my other thread but I wanted to post here and ask you ladies in case people dont feel like reading my loooong post about Emy's dr visit. So let me just paste it here:

About solids the dr said we can give her fruits and veggies 2-3 times a day, i will do 2 times, I wanted to ask him how much each time but he didnt give me time.
I gave her baked peaches when we got home and OMG she loved them (thanks Chelle!).
Should I give her the same fruit or veggie both times or should I make one feeding cereal and the other fruits or veggies?

Erika, the material I have from our provincial health board recommends feeding both cereal and fruits/veggies at every meal.

When Evie went for her shots, I was surprised to learn that since Evie is already 6 mths, it's also ok to start feeding her meats as well. I don't think I'll be starting it until maybe next month, she still on very smooth textures.

Right now, I am baking sweet potato, I'm excited to feed her this very first food for lunch today!

Sophia, I made chicken last weekend and was really surprised how smooth they came out. I just boiled a chicken breast in water and then used the water to help smooth it out. I tasted it and the texture wasn't too bad. From what I heard it gets better if you add it to something else, like peaches or applesauce.

Kat, wasn't it you that said you made summer squash? How did you make it? I am thinking about sauteeing it like I do for us, then pureeing it. I was thinking that might give it a little more flavor than boiling/steaming.

Chelle~ I cut it into chunks (I peeled it only because I didn't want to have to go crazy with the strainer) and steamed it on the stove. Then I pureed it and pushed it through a strainer to get the super thin consistancy. It actually didn't taste too bad, but I love summer squash. You could probalby sautee it but I don't know about adding anything to it (like olive oil).

Sophia, really? Meats already? I think its too soon, not sure when they should start the meets but I think 8-9 months. We will wait till then. She is still getting used to to the solids.

Erika, I was pretty shocked myself when I heard it. But this came from the community health nurse. I don't mind trying out meats, but I want Evie to have more veggies and a few fruits before proceeding to meats. Chances are, she'll probably be 8 months by then.

Gave Evie her 2nd try of sweet potato, she ate it, but she kept making faces the entire time. DH put it thru a ricer rather than actually mashing it up, and I think the texture from that is totally foreign to her.
