DH has yet to feed Ava any solids on his day. I think it's too much of a hassle for him. I'll help you beat yours if you help me beat mine.

I made chicken and pears today so will try the pears tomorrow and chicken after that.

Do ya'll go the full 4 days in between? I've noticed I've started doing about 3 days.

Now DH fed her for the first time yesterday - oatmeal with apple sauce and he just kept going nasty about the oatmeal. Well she liked it so he finally stopped, but I just wanted to pop him. I don't want her on his diet of donuts and chips.

I try to wait 4 days, but it ends up being 3 most of the time. The only one I really took the whole 4 days was for sweet potatoes, we couldn't tell if he was teething at night or had a tummy ache...it ended up being teething.

And I would have totally popped DH for that too Lena. My DH was all excited to feed Wyatt the first few times, but that was it. He hasn't fed him in over a week :violent2: cause obviously I needed more things to worry about during my day

My hubby rarely feeds Kaysen solids. It's like it's my job. The couple of times Jeff has fed him, he continually made comments about the mess Kaysen was making on his face and hands.

DH feeds Emy solids on the days I try to work, he lets her get all messy and I hear them laugh and giggle.

Today Emy wouldnt eat the sweet potatoes, she was ok with them before but I guess now she decided she wont have them, she was hungry because she ate her milk, I have to mix something into the sweet potatoes so she takes them next time.

I got Ava those Gerber Yogurt melts. She wasn't so sure at first, but after a couple she decided that she loves them. I had one to make sure that it really melted. They weren't so bad. It's funny because every thing that she picks up goes in her mouth. She picks these up, but WON'T put them in her mouth.

She had some garlic mashed potatoes tonight. She first had the body shudder going on, then she whined for more. Silly girl. That diaper is going to stink tomorrow.

Nat's teething again so her tummy is upset again, ack! Tonight's dinner was a slice of whole wheat bread (to help with the teeth) and a bottle. She really wasn't happy with her apples which she loved yesterday..

I think I am going to do peaches tomorrow with her cereal, then peas in a few days followed by carrots. Really need to get more veggies going, she was trying to get my salad today.

Another question. I have done chicken, what other meats or proteins can I do? I really like chick peas, are those alright? Can I make a mild hummus for her? What about beans? What sorts are best to start with? Kidney? Pinto? Black? and should I use dried or canned?

I love all sorts of foods and would like to share so much with her. Just want to make sure everything is safe.

We scored fresh peaches from the Okanagan, yay!! I can't wait to feed them to Evie, may have to wait until we return home. Then we'll give her chicken in chicken broth next weekend.

DH shares in feeding her. I let him pick one meal to feed, and I feed in the other. Some days I will feed her both meals; others DH feeds her both. However, I always seem to be the one that has to prepare her baby food.

Bluberries make a faster exit, she had them with pears at 9am, at about 2pm I was cleaning a smurf butt, it wasnt diarhea but it just comes out faster. We only did 2 days of bluberies, waiting another day to give her something new but I think another day of bluberry breakfast was too much. She loved them with bananas the second day. I made the cubes small, about 0.5 oz instead of a full 2oz, this way I can add it to other fruits.
Fixed the sweet potato problem, I mixed it with applesauce last night and she couldnt get enough.
Tomorrow we will start zucchini, I baked it in the oven so it tastes better but I still have to mix it with carrots or butternut squash for better taste.

Anyone doing pumpkin? Not sure if I will bother with that, we never eat pumpkin unless its in a pie for Thanksgiving.

One of my nephews got pumpkin pie at his first thanksgiving he was 10 months and about 1 hour later the pumpkin pie came out in its bright orange glory, not doing pumpkin till Nat is a tad older.

So after a few successful days of making peas and rice cereal for Natalie (she loves them) we have moved on to peaches, she likes them but not as much as peas.

LMAO! And at "smurf butt" too. I need to get serious and do some freezer stocking this weekend. I haven't made a big batch of anything lately. I haven't made berries at all yet. That's my next project. We did try yo baby yogurt the past two days and he LOVES that stuff! So far I've given him the pear and peach kinds. I figured he's okay with the fruits already, just the yogurt is new to him. I eat yogurt every day, so I'm glad he likes it. My dh thinks it's gross.

I've been giving Carson little nibbles of whatever we have for dinner, mushed up. So far so good and he seems so excited to get our food too.

Andrea you should try the plain yobaby, its really yummy and not sour at all, Emily loves it and you can always mix fruit in, dont think the yogurt has the real fruit in it.

Ava gets our table food too. She had noodles out of our pasta tonight (after downing her cereal and squash and her little yogurt snacks). She thinks that she has teeth and chews everything. It's quite comical the way she stares at you with puppy dog eyes. She also had a french fry the other day. She gummed it enough to where she bit off a piece, then finished gumming it. She got mad when I took the plate away.

NEVER take fries from a kid. ROFL I am trying to get on track and catch Natalie up, I missed a whole bunch of beginner foods so we are going back to them for introductions, they are going extremely well. Peaches are going to be fed to Nat for a lunch or snack this afternoon depending on when she wakes from nap time.

Made a big pot of beef stew for dinner last night with stew meat, carrots, potatoes, celery, peas, green beans and corn. Decided to throw some in the food processor and gave some to Victor - he ate that like there was no tomorrow! So I made about 6 ice cube trays full and have them freezing as we speak. There's dinner for him for a while!

Mmmm! Beef stew sounds good.

I bought a couple jars of baby food while we were away this weekend. Kaysen liked the chicken dinner or whatever it was that I bought. I'd like to get a little more creative with his dinners.

We finally started giving yogurt to Evie yesterday. We gave her a baby spoonful of plain, just so she knows what it tastes like. The face she made was precious!!!! Then we put sweet potato in it and she was only ok with it.

This morning, we decided to go to a 3 meals a day after waking up twice to nurse her (coz she didn't have much dinner the nite before). We fed her plain yogurt and banana. She gobbled it up so fast! Then just a little cereal, rice and barley that I mixed together. She is out like a lite now. Smile

The most exciting thing that Wyatt gets for dinner is whatever I grab from the frozen stash LOL Last night it was peas and pears, the night before squash and apples LOL He's still working his way through the new stuff so I'm not too worried about introducing big combos yet.

we havent hit any huge combos really, except last night.

first i tried carrots and breen beans, she likes the carrots but wont eat green beans. still wouldnt eat it, so let her finish off the carrots, then we had some squash in the fridge that she doesnt like plain, so i threw some tart apple puree in with it and she likes! then i had some very berry banana storebought stuff that she didnt like plain that i mixed with the last of the apple i defrosted and she ate that too!

i aim for 3 meals a day with Ellie so if we miss one she still eats 2, instead of 0 or 1 like we had going on for a while.

so i have apples, baked white peaches, green beans, then made blueberries and carrots yesterday, thats all in the freezer, and i grabbed a few from the store to try. mixed veggies because it has green veggies in it mixed with carrots to try, then a few things i dont have so much of at home, like sweet potato orchard blend, and a spare jar of carrots to mix with things, the berry banana stuff, pear with pumpkin, and a few other ones. i was mad though, i bought hawaiian delight and its main ingredient is SUGAR! i'm going to mix it with my tart apples. maybe the blueberries if they are too tart for her. or with peas so she'll eat them...

babyfood is fun Smile

i sent her to spend the day with DH and my mom with her oatmeal cereal, then apples and peaches, and last squash and sweet potatoes.

I gotta get more veggies, DH gave Nat the last of her peas today. I use the rice cereal as a base for everything it seems to help Nat digest some of the foods better at first.

My mom gave her carrots and didn't cook or puree them well enough and she had a bad sore tummy the next morning, so the next day I made carrots proper and even though they didn't hurt her tummy they weren't a pretty sight coming out later, Sunday I mixed them with rice and success! She liked them best this way and no smelly poop or upset tummy when mixed with rice. Yahoo

I'm running out of food as well. I haven't been home and/or felt well enough to do any extra cooking. Shoot, I've barely cooked for us. Jeff pulled out some chicken breasts for us tonight. I am hoping to get creative and do something K can eat as well.

Had to make more green beans and carrots on the weekend, we ran of those. We started giving her chicken on Sunday, she wasn't sure at first, but now she likes them. Too bad her tummy didn't, she puked them back up during the meal. The next meal we gave her chicken and green beans, it worked out for us.

I'm gonna use rice cereal as a base from now on, I hate feeding her just rice cereal! So runny and takes so long to feed it to her - even Evie gets bored and tired after a while!

Jessica has been getting chicken mixed in with a veggie for lunch every day now. I just started consitently giving her something in the evening. It is usually a fruit. She loves plums in the mesh feeder. Yesterday she got Papaya that I'd prepped this weekend. She liked that too.

I've yet to find something she won't eat. She didn't really like the chicken by itself, but that is it so far. I think it was the texture more than anything as she still looks a little suspicious the first spoons of peas. Like this isn't the texture it is supposed to have.

Sophia - what do you use for the rice cereal? The stuff I make isn't runny. I made my own for a while, but then started buying the Gerber Organic as I was still picking out some bigger rice pieces in what I was making. Maybe I just don't use enough water, but Jessica has never had issues.

Chelle - Let me know what you do with the chicken, I am unsure of what I am doing with ours tonight I need inspiration.

Sophia - So funny that Evie doesn't eat rice, Nat isn't its biggest fan but will definately will eat it. Adding pea's to it makes it the worlds best food, LOL!

We are using PC organic rice here, it comes in a powder form, I will often use it to thicken foods that are a bit runny for Nat's liking I find it odd that you find yours runny, are you buying it premade in a jar?

I'll be making some apples today, I know many of us have done apples, I normally just boil them toss in ice water and then puree to make sauce, but I've read you can bake them too, who has done this and does baby like it better or are the really impartial?

Today I gave Nat a small bit of yogurt from mine and she really wasn't a big fan, it has sugar so she really didn't get much, I am avoiding sugar on a regular basis until she is over 12 months. Just a personal choice. I have to remember to put plain yogurt on the grocery list for next week for her.

I was thinking of some type of baked chicken with rice (using some cream soup.) Jeff will love that. >insert sarcasm

I've baked apples with cinnamon. I don't think Kaysen or Asher had a preference.

I use Nestle's rice cereal, I make it to direction, so no more than 4 tbsp cereal to 3 oz BM. But it seems like no matter how much cereal I put in, it just all liquifies.

I should clarify...Evie loves her rice cereal....but when it starts getting all runny and basically I'm just spooning liquid in her mouth, she gets bored and will let almost ANYTHING distract her at that point. Makes it even harder to feed the remaining cereal to her. In fact, to try and bulk up the cereal, I have started adding veggie purees to it. I think the chicken might be next.

I hope to bake the peaches we got from the Okanagan soon, I can wait to feed it to her! Plus it will make a great addition to her plain yogurt we give her every morning.

i have gerber and beachnut brand and they both say add liquid to desired consistancy. so.... just start with cereal and add a little milk until it looks right Smile

blueberries = baby colon cleanse

Ellie has been a little backed up lately, blueberries today and 3 huge poopy diapers! i didnt know she had that much in there!

Sophia try adding liquid to cereal, I think 3oz is way too much, start with 1oz and see if its too thick. I dont really use rice anymore, I use oatmeal to thicken her veggies if they are too runny, I should start using rice again.

Emy loves her yogurt, she will eat the whole 4oz, usually I eat a bit with her, still only feeding it to her plain, she loves it that way.
We will start chicken in 3 weeks, I will puree some with carrots and peas and with sqash and green beans. Dont want her to turn orange if she gets carrots every day.

LOL Jenni, you make it sound way too funny. I have noticed since putting Evie on the potty that she has A LOT of poop for a baby! It's amazing!

So I finally found the courage (and actually remembered) to bring stuff to feed Evie while I was out having coffee with my coworkers downtown. I just fed her banana, but I had to remember to bring her bib, a fork, spoon, little container, washcloths.

i almost want to post a HUGE rant about how difficult it is to feed Evie rite now. She grabs the bowl, the spoon, gets distracted by EVERYTHING. Even being very hungry does not stop her from getting distracted. It is taking 2-3x as long to feed her than it did before. I know I shouldn't get upset and that this is playing and learning, but D*MN, eat your food!!!!

I know what you mean Sophia. When we went out for dinner on DHs birthday I was feeding Emily and DH was feeding me. Our dinner was over so fast because we just ate and went home, we used to take our time, enjoy the food, chill, now it was like a mad rush to get out of there before she pulls all the dishes off the table. But at least she is good, doesnt fuss and cry, at least for now.
I bought this little cooler bag in BRU and I can put spoons, yogurt, banana and the icepack. I could actually take some applesauce or pears for her if we needed it. I got disposable bibs just for the time I have to feed her when we are out, its a lot less messy and they are pretty big. Fed her yugurt at the mall the other day, I just sat her down on the bench next to me with the big bib and she ate so well and didnt try to climp around.

so... Ellie wont eat green veggies. nothing so far. peas and green beans are both massive failures. massive. i cant mix a spoonful (babyspoonful) into carrots or sweet potatoes because she wont eat them. should i mix with fruit? should i stop trying (and wasting food) for a while and just bring them back every once in a while? i'd like to try broccoli or spinach, but my mom says those arent good for her yet. i better look it up, they had bad research and worse habits when my mom had us.....

i did try the mixed veggies, i read the jar its mostly carrots with peas and green beans. no go. after one bite she wouldnt open her mouth, turned her head, and actually shoved it away with her hands.

broccoli is a 8-10 month food, but spinach is 10-12 so broccoli can come visit shortly,i hope she likes it, because i LOVE broccoli! i also got the bright idea to try some zucchini and avocado, i normally dont eat avocado so i dont have it in the house, but my mom already fed her zucchini bread so straight up might work.

I would give her a break from greens for a few days and bring it back slowly. I can tell Evie does not like green beans (I'm still thinking maybe from the chunkier texture that DH made in the recent batch), but so far she'll eat it mixed with other veggies or with cereal.

Haven't tried apples yet, but the baking peaches per http://wholesomebabyfood.com site was pretty good. Took us about 1/2 hr to bake and the skin melted right into the peach so we never had to skin them.

Talking about peaches, Evie does not like them on their own. With yogurt or chicken however, and she can't get enough!

Evie has decided she likes the chunkier green beans again, but is totally against chicken!!! I'm getting a bit stressed b/c we thickened the cereal but it got her really constipated, so I had to thin it again. I only give her 1 oz of cereal 3x a day. And now that she doesn't like chicken, I'm stressed that she won't get enough iron in her system. Arrrrrrrgh!!

Have you tried just a tablespoon of cereal with each of her meals? Nat prefers peaches with rice.

Erika, just keep offering the veggies, but a smaller amount. I also wouldn't give her anything else instead. Ie so she doesn't learn that if she refuses she'll get something else she wants instead. Since solids is just for practice to eat now if you don't give her anything else its not the end of the world. Formula or BM is still the main source of nutrition.
