    Hello ladies. My name is Danielle. I'm a FTM of b/g twins born 12/29/10. I bf and cd them both. Now that they are reaching 6 months its time to start introducing solids. I am excited to make their food. Not only will it be fun, but im looking fwd to saving money too. Any little thing I can do as a SAHM to save money is good.


    So last week I started them with bananas because we had some in the fruit bowl. They LOVED them. I really expected them to wear more than they ate the first time. Not only did they eat it all, my little boy really got upset when it was gone. next was sweet potatoes-- not so successful there until bananas were added. Tonight was avocados. After our experience with the sweet potato I decided to add banana this time too. So 1 banana and 1 avocado into the food processor. I did keep a slice of avocado to mash alone to try first. Aiden gets so excited to eat, it's too cute... He wasn't thrilled with it by itself, but enjoyed having it with banana. You could tell he was trying to figure out the new texture. Alaina liked the taste of the avocado alone, but since I mashed it with a fork instead of processing it, she had a harder time swallowing-- she just wanted t to sit on her tounge. She too loved it with banana.

    Trying to decide between peas, carrots, apples, and peaches next. Suggestions?

    So questions--
    1. When it comes to frozen purees, would you recommend freezing each fruit/veggie alone and then if mixing, do so when served? I.e. Peaches and sweet potato separate to serve alone or to combine when thawed if desired.

    2. I skipped cereal as the first food. I know it needs to be introduced though. Which one is more versatile? I'm leaning toward oatmeal...

    3. When is it okay to add seasoning/spices such as cinnamon?

    And on a side note the thought of introducing EVERY food one item at a time is a bit daunting. I'm just saying..

    Now that DD has started on 'meals' I puree it all together (fruit, meat, vegetables). I freeze them in individual 1/2 cup servings. It make meal time faster.
    Bananas and avocado I always give them to her fresh. I mix cereal and BM in with the fruit.

    I freeze my cubes separatly then I can mix and match what I wnat to give DS every day. I do the same when I freeze chunks of food

    I freeze separately as well.

    You can introduce spices around 9 months I believe.

    Apples are usually liked by babies. Carrots too. Peas are usually a harder sell!

    Missed a question!

    Rice is more neutral and results in less allergies. Oatmeal tastes better IMHO!

    Thank you ladies!

    My apples didn't turn out all that great. I don't think I cooked them long enough.. pears came out great so they tried those instead. I tried some peaches too but they weren't very sweet so we mixed them with sweet potatoes. I think we've decided to try oatmeal next. And then carrots. I pureed an acorn squash and froze it too.
