Share your homemade babyfood pictures!

I thought it would be fun for everyone to share pictures of baby food they have made, whether frozen or thawed or both, and maybe pics of your baby eating it. I'll start:

Mmmm, mango was one of my DD's favourites.

And look at that boobie juice stash! This mommy is nowhere near as dedicated to pumping... haha I drive home from work twice a day jsut so I don't have to pump. ;)

My little man is just about to start solids I think. I made my daughter's food so I will for my son too! I should start posting here. :)

Here is my go at peas. The last picture is of my son loving them and trying to feed himself.

~~Butternut Squash~~

Butternut Squash : a light tan color, elongated pear or bell-shaped. A deep orange flesh, loaded with a sweet, nutty flavor.

Preheat Oven to 400 Degrees

Cut butternut squash in half, scoop out seeds

Place halves face down in a pan and cover with an inch of water

Bake in a 400 degree oven for 40 minutes to 1 hour - be sure the “shell/skin” puckers and halves feel soft then scoop squash “meat” out of the shell

Place squash "meat" into your choice of appliance for pureeing and begin pureeing.

Add FRESH breastmilk or water as necessary to achieve a smooth, thin consistency.

Puree

Place in ice-cube trays.

Freeze! Once Frozen place in plastic freezer storage bag.

TIPS:

-- Takes alot more liquid then you think to thin out enough for stage one first foods. I started off using breastmilk, but found plain old water was easier. They say babies under 6 months should not have juice, but if you want you can use juice to thin =)

-- I did NOT use organic butternut squash for two reasons. I could not find it and two you do NOT use the outside skin so baby doesn't get any part that could have been contaminated (sp?) by pesticides. But again its your prefference! I got mine at the local farmers market. To me the fresher the better =)

-- I found these cool freezer bags by ziploc. They come with a battery operated sucker thing. It cost about $8 at walmart and you can buy as many bags as you want. This way I can open and grab some out, suck the air back out, and cut down on the freezer "ice crystals"... =)

**NOTE** I did 2 fairly good size squash and I got 5 ice cube trays full! Also I paid .84 cents per pound, figure I made that much food for under $4!!!!

Sweet Potatoes

White or Light colored Sweet Potatoes are more dry and not as tasty as the orange colored sweet potatoes.

Wash and poke holes in sweet potato with fork then wrap sweet potatoes in tin foil - do not peel for baking/microwaving.

Place in a 400 degree oven and bake for 30-60 minutes or until soft

Remove skins by slitting the sweet potato lengthwise when cooled then scoop out the "meat". Use a liquid from your preferred source to puree or thin the sweet potatoes.
