    Default What's cooking?

I was thinking maybe every week or two we could do a thread on what new/interesting food we've been cooking, or just something we've discovered LO really likes! I love getting ideas from all of you. If you're pregnant, you could share what your looking forward to making! Pics are optional, but always welcome
This week's new food was beets, and I was really surprised how much Clara likes them (I hate beets)! I got 2 fresh beets, peeled, cubed, boiled, rinsed and pureed. I'd say they needed a solid 1/2 hour to get nice and mushy, but they pureed really well! I rinsed after boiling because I'm paranoid about nitrates, I don't think its really necessary

    Share yours!

I'm also going to be revamping the recipes sticky at some point this week and putting everything into one master post - if you have a yummy recipe to add, you can post to that thread any time!

We've been doing same old-same old. DS doesn't seem concerned or bored but I am. I'm finding fruit to be very expensive or non existent (I've been looking for peaches for weeks and they're either not there or if they are they're not in good condition). I'm definitely in need of something new and fun to try!

DS is also teething and eating less and being more picky. This means I'm sticking to what I know he'll eat.

His favourite meal is chili - which is great because it's so packed full of great stuff. He loves squash and all fruit. So, he's eating a lot of squash and chili!!

I'm impressed that your beets turned out well. Mine turned out un-smooth (not sure how to best describe them). But, that could be because my blender isn't the best. Maybe I'll try them again. I LOVE beets and ended up eating his because he didn't really like them!

Lol, Clara is the exact opposite of most babies when teething - she wants to eat EVERYTHING, and she'll keep eating until I stop her. She always wants something in her mouth. Strangely, I've found that frozen green beans really do it for her at the moment!

Yay for new foods! I love scouting out things Clara hasn't tried yet to see what she thinks She had apricot today for the first time -- she wasn't 100% on it, but it usually takes her a few times to warm up to new foods. Anyone else have a fun new food going on?

Our new foods have been finger foods and not purees. DS loves ground beef and corn - which make for very interesting diaper changes!!

Another new addition was bagels and cream cheese (one of my fav's)...DS loved sucking the cream cheese off

Ooo! We haven't tried cream cheese yet - I bet she'll love it! Do you toast the bagel first?

We're on all finger foods over here too - I'm slipping leftover purees into her oatmeal! I'm having a heck of a time trying to get protein in her diet though She just won't eat meat! She eats some beans, some cheese, but she really loves toast and veggies! I guess it could be worse

We are on the opposite end of the rest of you - just starting with purees!

We tried Carrots today for lunch. She really wasn't sure of them! LOL! Then again she didn't like the sweet potatoes or even the pears that much either. She's just more a booby girl I guess!

A tip for cooking beets fast, is to put them in the pressure cooker.

Afew days ago, we tried asparagus. I peeled them, so they were not so stringy.
As a bonus, the soft tips made for finger food, for DD who has just started to figure out that chewing is part of eating solids. .
