    Default First Day!

Today was our first day of school! Everything went very well. If I have time later I will come back and write about it.

Thank you. My girls are 7, 5, and almost 3. We are using a variety of curriculum. For the 7 year old we are using A Beka for Language Arts, a combination of A Beka and Saxon for math, Story of the World for History, and Apologia for science. For the 5 year old just A Beka.

So far school is going very well. We are very much school at home people. We have a dedicated school room. Each did we have started with the Pledge. Then worked on a bible verse. I take turns having the girls at my desk while the other one works on seatwork. We have ended with a craft each day. Today we finished early(Around 11:30).

Your 7 year old finished that early, too? I'm sooo hoping that we can be done with our school day fairly quickly. But I'm not anticipating that great of a success in schedule the first couple of weeks. And I'm only schooling one child. But, he IS ADHD, so I foresee trouble with focusing initially.

She was up early, so we had started by 8. 8 to 11:30 is still 3 1/2 hours. I would say even for 2nd grade 3 to 4 hours is not bad. That was for all her subjects. In that 3 1/2 hours she read a chapter in Little Woman, did an Abeka and Saxon math paper, did an A Beka language paper, did 3 pages in her Bible Lifepac, Listened to me read on chapter in SOTW and then did the review questions and took an open book test, practised the piano, did extramath.com on the computer, and made a puppet.

If this is your first year you will notice that homeschooling takes much less time than public or private school. Think of all of the time spent in lunch, announcements, waiting for the slower kids to finishes, making sure all 30 or so kids don't need help and are finished before moving on.

Fun, Fun! There is so much you can do. It is hard to imagine not homeschooling now.

My boys even at 9 and 10 we go till lunch and stop. If they are not done I make them finish up after lunch but they are usually done. When co-op starts that usually takes over Fridays. We also don't do regular M-F as my husband works 4 on 4 off so sometimes we school Saturdays.. depends. We start at either 8 or 9 depends on how my night goes, I am dealing with a chronic migraine right now, but have chronic illnesses I have had to deal with since they were born. We have always gotten done enough to be at grade level, even with my oldest's dyslexia and he tested above the 50th %tile this year in the CAT testing, so what we are doing works for us/him anyway.
I really don't think with the one on one time the kids get that they need as much time, when I worked with the kids in the public school they got WAY WAY less individualized time.

Which Apologia Science are you doing, we just bought the Botany, we are using it as a reference book for Weaver. I just love Apologia!
