My plan was to start on the 20th, but then I gave my kids a choice of doing switched on schoolhouse or books this year and they chose books. Which means tons more work and planning for me. Also, half of the books that we need haven't even arrived yet so I'm hoping to start on Monday with whatever we have and keep adding in as the books arrive. We'll see how that goes!

Bonita, I'm glad it is going well so far.

    Nell, do you feel ready?

Jen, hope you start off well on Monday.

Technically, we don't start until the 5th, but we never took the summer off and we are already started on this year's curriculum. Andrea was frustrated with our old curriculum, so moving on to this new one is easier for us than forcing her to continue the old for another couple weeks. We don't have a teacher assigned yet but we have had all our supplies for weeks.

    I'm ready to jump in.

We are using Connections Academy, so there isn't much prep work for me to do.. my prep work is mostly mental at this point. I'm tired of being anxious about it and ready to take the plunge, so to speak. I know the first few weeks will be figuring out our routines and I'll need to take frequent mommy breaks until we get it figured out, but I'm ready to do it already.

Good luck ladies! We school year round and are having some down time a bit right now, working on finishing up siding on the house, getting ready to go camping in September, so we will hit the books the next couple weeks till we go so we will be ahead or on track with Public School. We try not to get to behind... the only really scheduled curriculum I have is Saxon Math, the rest is very much IEP (Individualized Education Program).. I use Weaver from Alpha Omega for History/Science/Bible/Social Studies (this is a backbone unit study Genesis-Revelation based curriculum) from it I add on things Like Apologia Science or Beautiful Feet History etc etc. We do pretty much ALL unit study method for these subjects including Geography which I added last year. I am a bit concerned right now in adding in Sex Ed this year, my oldests's peers are getting it at Public school ... we have had the sex talk with our boys.. but not in depth about their body parts and how they work intensely, so going to get into that part this year.. not necessarily the female parts as much, But I want to give them a good HEALTH knowledge of themselves this year, Since I majored in Biology I know the info, just not sure exactly how I am going to present it.. so wish me luck!
For reading we are still focusing on Phonics quite a bit finishing up a video series from Scottish Rite Hospital that helps with Adult Literacy, my oldest is dyslexic and it helps a LOT, we are making reading/spelling notebooks, and using Explode the Code as we have used in the past, just continuing on with the next levels.

For Literature we choose wholesome books but also age appropriate LessonPathways.com gave me a good place to start with ideas to add on to the book, like activities/games/recipes even.. but I don't like all the books for our family so we are adding in some and removing others.

Also for Writing getting more into it this year and have a great book called "The Write Stuff Adventure" that not only gives prompts but also builds and teaches different writing styles... in an interesting way so I don't leave out something. So though I know how to teach, write and edit and essay this is much funner .

We use netflix a LOT to fill in and I highly recommend a subscription to it to add onto your curriculum will help you in History/Science etc.

Also for Social Studies etc we have Cubscouts, of which I am their leader, and we do LONE SCOUTS, which is actually like homeschooling for scouts.

We also plan to join up with the co-op again this year not sure what we will be doing, I think probably Geography theme this year, which will be fun, last year we did Body in a Biblical way, and year before was Colonialism and used Homeschool in the Woods (you can find more info on this online).

Good luck with the sex ed I am so not looking forward to that. How old are your boys?

For my kindergartner we are doing mostly Abeka with extra worksheets added in.

For my second grader we are doing a mix. For math we do one Abeka worksheet, one Saxon worksheet, and Xtramath.org each day. For History we are doing a modified Story of the World along with each day reading one non-fiction reader. Sometimes history and sometimes science. For science we are doing an Apologia book. The Animals of the Sixth Day. For reading, she is reading a chapter in a chapter book each day in addition to the non fiction reader. For language we are doing Abeka. For spelling we are doing a mix of Abeka and words that she has misspelled the previous week. Along with church, piano lessons, and various arts and crafts.
