I'm a SAHM of almost three (due with our third son in a couple weeks), and I'm getting ready to start kindergarten with ds1 (4yo) in about a month!

I'm a hs grad myself, and while hsing is mostly important to me for academics and providing a positive social environment, it also makes religious observance much easier for us. We're Jewish, so the traditional start of the school year coincides with three holidays for us. Instead, we've decided to align our school year with the start of our religious calendar at Passover.

I've gathered a curriculum from materials we already have. There's going to be a lot of reading aloud and talking about the world this year. Ds1 knows his letters and numbers, so we're going to spend the year putting that knowledge to use. I think he's just about ready to learn to read, which is why we're starting this year and not waiting until he's 5.

Since we'll be starting the year with a newborn, it's going to be a bit tricky, but I think it will help me take it easy , rather than going full bore. Biggrin

Looking forward to getting to know the other moms here!

I'm a Nana who has taught in many places in the past and who loves doing activities with my far away grandchildren whenever that is possible.
Last year I focused on gathering materials for a few classes I taught in Haiti. Turned out that teaching the teachers was very important too.
I like to read about how others approach teaching their children, but am sad things have become so slow here....

We just bump into each other everywhere!

I've been lurking the large family board (thanks for your advice there, btw), and I participate on the natural birth board, too.

Hi there! I also have 3 boys, ages 2, 4 and 6. We are expecting baby #4 this October! I started homeschooling this past September and we love it. I like that you mentioned lots of reading, I've been trying to incorporate reading aloud much more...although I must admit it's not easy to find one book that everyone enjoys and is attentive to! There's a book called the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease that I thought was reallly interesting, it really talks about the importance of reading to your kids if you want lifelong learners. Anyway, welcome!
