...is done! And I couldn't be happier with how everything went. I had the procedure done yesterday afternoon, and it went much smoother than even I expected. So much I could say about it, but I don't want to write a book here, LOL, so I'll just give you the highlights. Feel free to ask any questions, though - I'm happy to share.
I started the day at 7:30am with a heavy dose of cytotec, which is used to soften/open the cervix (but which also caused some slight cramping and diarrhea - but no big deal, really). Then DH drove me to the clinic, walked me in, and waited to make sure I was all set, which I thought was really sweet. Once I was there, they gave me Percoset, Valium, and some other pain-numbing shot in the arm - a combo that made me very happy, LOL. After about 20 minutes, I was given a shot of some other numbing drug directly into my cervix, which was probably the most painful part of the whole thing (but only lasted a second). Ten minutes later, in they went with a few tiny instruments, found the fallopian tubes, inserted the coils, and that was that. I got to watch the whole thing on a monitor, which was pretty wild, and there were 4 women in there with me - the OB, her assistant, an Essure rep, and another assistant to hang out next to me in case I needed anything. The atmosphere in the room was light and fun, and despite what was going on I actually had a great time. I never felt any pain, just some occasional pressures and pinches inside that felt weird and slightly uncomfortable but were totally tolerable. Leaving the procedure I was very loopy from the meds, and continued to be for a bit today, but I haven't felt any pain or soreness whatsoever. Now I wait for the coils to form scar tissue and block the tubes, and in 3 months I go back and have them insert some dye and take an x-ray to see if the tubes are, in fact, completely blocked. Voila!
I did worry how Violet would fare, since I wasn't about to BF with all those drugs in my system, but my mom came over and spent the afternoon/evening with her, and she was GREAT. Vi took bottles of formula with no problems, and I was able to "pump and dump" until I finally nursed again around 9am this morning. I was very thankful!
If you made it this far, thanks for listening!
