One month check-up

I am taking Oskar for his one month check up and I am worried that he did not gain enough. I know he drinks a lot, but just yesterday a lady asked me if he was a preemie because at one month he is still so small. So of course I have been stressing about it ever since.

What about your babies? I know I saw that some babies are gaining 3 lbs, but are there slow growing babies?

Oh, definitely - I have a little peanut as well! Violet was 6lb 13oz at birth, and I still don't think she's reached 8lbs yet (at 5 weeks). Her doctor isn't worried in the least, and neither am I. She's gaining - even if it is slowly - and she's eating and pooping really well and seems otherwise happy and healthy, so no worries. Biggrin I'm sure our LOs will hit a growth spurt one of these days. (In fact, I think we may have started one here - instead of eating every 2-3 hours, Violet's been eating every 45 minutes for the last 12 hours or so. I'm really tired at the moment!)

Well, I know mine are very fast growing. DS3 was 6lbs 14oz at birth and was 8lbs 8oz at 2 weeks. Not sure where he is now, but I'm guessing 10-11lbs. As a baby, I was the opposite, never gaining weight quickly. I was 6lbs 6oz at birth and maybe 18lbs at a year. I'm was fine, just small. I wouldn't worry unless the doctor is worried, especially if LO is staying around the same percentile.

Emily is a slow gainer and TINY. She was born weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces, at 5 days old was 6 pounds 7 ounces and at 5 weeks old is up to 7 pounds 5 ounces. I get asked all the time if she was a preemie. My older kids were born bigger, but also very slow gainers until a year old.

I usually post in May but it looks like our little ones have the same birthday! We had a bit of a set back being in the NICU for a week but Sophie started at 7lbs even. Discharged on day 7 at 6lbs 9oz on day 10 she was 6lbs 5oz day 17 6lbs 6oz then we had to crack down with pumping and bottles of ebm day 24 6lbs 12 oz day 32 she was 7lbs 3oz. So we just hit birthweight at a month. She eats constantly throughout the day but sleeps 7 hours at night. All mine were very slow gainers my smallest weighing 14 lbs at a year. The others were 17 lbs at a year. I get asked a lot if she was premature, Friday I was annoyed and just said yes!!

Well, everything went well. He is growing just fine. My pediatrician couldn't believe that I exclusively breastfeed. He even told me that I don't have to feed him on demand anymore since he gained so much weight in a month. I'm not sure I agree with him since Oskar is not that big, but we'll see. When he left the hospital he was 5lbs 13oz and now he is 8lbs 12oz. Yay for breastfeeding!

That's awesome! You guys are doing great! But you know, I don't think that Delaney would do well without being fed on demand and she's 7 weeks now, you don't mess with this girls food! lol

That's great! DD was a tiny baby and a slow gainer but the pedi wasn't concerned. Nate seems to be the opposite.
