Colors?

Does any of your leapfrogs know their colors correctly? Im wondering why Alex really doesnt yet-sometimes he will get a few right right off the bat and then just pretty much guess or say the same color over and over. He knows shapes pretty well and abcs and can count to 12 or higher so Im wondering if this is normal at this age or if he may be color blind? We dont really work w him on it to much as they teach him at daycare but will be doing more of that to try to gauge him...what about your leapfrogs??

Miranda can identify colors. I think this is about the right age they start to learn....DH is big on colors, letters, shapes, numbers, etc. It's about time for preschool. Smile

Rhys knows them most of the time but is the same way, sometimes he just guesses and its like he has no idea. I remember maddi being the same way at this age, she knew them then all of a sudden one day it was "blue, blue, blue" to everything. I think sometimes there is just so much going on in their little brains that skills they already have sorted take a back seat for a while and they work on new ones then they pick it up again. We were thinking rhys was colour blind for a while - he kept getting yellow and blue confused but now I'm not so sure.

sophie knows them except she has problems with black and white and getting them mixed up. sophie has always been into learning and doesnt do daycare so we have worked on numbers, letters, writing, colors etc since she was about 1

Jocelyn knows them. And will tell us which shade is darker(of the same basic color). She's done colors for a pretty long time. But the fact she's been preschool for over a year probably helped.

Micaiah knows the basic ones. Does colorblindness run in your family? I am a carrier - my dad is colorblind so my boys have a 25% chance of being colorblind too. But I don't think Micaiah is. They mainly have trouble being able to tell reds from greens and maybe pinks from browns and stuff. But it's hereditary so unless you have it in the family (ie your dad has it), it's probably not that.
Just keep working with him, he'll get it!

not all forms of colourblindness are necessarily inherited. "blue - yellow" colourblindness can be inherited or acquired and it's not sex linked like red-green either. Unlikely for a child the age of ours to have an aquired form though, usually it's through a severe head injury or aging, I think it's been linked to alcoholism too. I started reading about it when Rhys was coming up with funny answers to colour questions, it's pretty interesting when you look at all the different forms.

Kaitlyn sounds like Alex - she knows the name, but can't answer you when you ask her - she just sounds like she's guessing, and you can pick something up, ask her what color it is, put it down, and 1 min. later pick it up again and she'll tell you a different color. But she doesn't seem delayed in other things - she can count to 10 (and to 5 in Spanish for some odd reason), and she call tell you all the animals and their sounds, but colors she is having a hard time, I've wondered a few times if she was color blind too.

Noah knows his colours pretty good. There are a few that he knows better than others. He loves orange and red so he gets those right everytime and the other colours he is getting really good with too.

Im confident hes just fine. One day we were at the bank and it was st. pattys day and he goes look mommy a green balloon. And he was right-then we went to the post office where he got a sucker and he opened it and goes Pink. And it was. So im sure hes learning them just fine he just gets bored when being quized on them...which im hoping isnt really ADD since his dad has it...
