I know we just recently had a naptime and bedtime thread going, so I know that most of our snow peas are still napping, but I'm afraid it may be time to get rid of Eli's nap, even though he seems to really need it still!
I cannot get this kid to sleep past 6 am. No matter what time he goes to bed, he's up at 6 am. Sometimes earlier. Yesterday it was 5:15 am! If he goes to bed at 8 pm, he gets up at 6 am. If he goes to bed at 11 pm, he gets up at 6 am. I think the latest he has ever slept in is 7 am.
I think I just have an early riser on my hands, but I'd love to get an extra 30-60 minutes in the morning!
Eli is still napping pretty much every day. Lately he has been making a HUGE fuss about naptime and bedtime, crying and wailing and saying NO! But even when he freaks out about naptime, he is fast asleep within 10 minutes. And then he sleeps for 2-3 hours, so I KNOW he is tired. On the days that he does not nap, he becomes an absolute BEAR around 5 pm and ends up going to bed super early (like 6:30 pm) and still gets up early in the morning.
Anyone else have a kid who just refuses to sleep in no matter what?
With baby #3 coming in 3 months, I'm just dreading the early mornings! I'll have likely been up most of the night with a newborn, and Eli will be climbing in to bed with us at 5:30 am! I don't think I can handle that! Ella sleeps until 7-8 in the mornings, so I just don't know what to do with my early riser!
I think I will lose my sanity if I lose Eli's nap. Those 2 hours are the most precious of my day!
sorry :( :bigarmhug:
I always have to wake Savanna up on the weekdays, she will sleep and sleep and sleep, so I wake her up between 7 & 7:30 so I can get her ready for daycare & to be to work by 8....weekdays when I actually get to sleep in....she is awake sometimes as early as 6! It doesn't happen all the time and sometimes I will get to sleep in until 9, but that is super rare....especially right now when her dad has to work Sat/Sun and he sounds like a herd of elephants getting ready in the morning
I know that's not much help, but hopefully he will just start sleeping better when babe #3 is here.....yeah right
Daphne's up by 6:15 pretty much every day, no matter what time she goes to bed. She's also been putting up a fight at naptime and bedtime. And when she naps (which is about 75% of the time now), she only sleeps an hour. If she doesn't nap, she's a total disaster by 6:30-7 and is still really hard to get to bed because she's overtired. I think she's ready to give up her nap, but man, with a new baby coming in the next couple of weeks, I'm so not ready for her to stop napping!
Daniel just recently became hit or miss with naps. He gets cranky and obviously tired, but we stopped putting him down for naps. If he falls asleep in the living room than I move him about half the time to his bed. Sometimes this wakes him up, sometimes it doesn't. If he falls asleep before lunch time then I let him sleep as long as he wants, but if he falls asleep after lunch than I only let him sleep about an hour or so (unless it's after 3:30, then he gets MAXIMUM 20 minutes).
This has actually helped us tremendously with sleeping through the night and I can usually make it to 7-7:30 before I actually have to get out of bed.
Our bed time is sometime between 8:30 and 9pm. Daniel only wakes me up 1x a night about 2-3 times a week and needs very little from me to go back to sleep.
UGH my babysitter just called and Savanna has learned how to get out of the bassinet (seriously, she has never even TRIED to get out of a bassinet OR a crib until today!) and isn't taking a nap today.....she had an hour nap yesterday and the day before no nap....yet when I have her home with me and put her down for naps in her crib she sleeps for 2-3 hours! I still want her to nap!
Griffin is hard to get down both at nap and bedtime. It can take up to an hour to get him to sleep, but he's always been like that. He has always fought sleep--one of those kids who keeps talking and trying to stay awake and coming up with excuses to stay awake even when his eyes are drooping. You know that book "Go the F*ck to Sleep"? Yeah, that's Griffin. If you haven't heard of that book you should check it out, it's hilarious in a depressing kind of way. I've started waking him up from naps after 2 hours if he isn't up yet, and that is making it easier at night. He definitely isn't ready to give up the nap, he's still really tired in the afternoon. But he usually sleeps until 7:30 or so. It does seem like they always sleep until the same time every day, regardless of when they go to bed, so I'm not sure putting him down later would get him to sleep in. Is his room pretty childproof? I sometimes let Griffin play in his room for a while before I get him. I read an article about how to sleep "in" even if you have kids that get up too early. It had tips about teaching them to know that they can't get out of bed until the numbers on the clock say "7:00," (I had a friend who did this with her son and it actually worked...she put a little piece of cardboard with the numbers written on it how they should be for him to get up, 6:30 in his case, and he would wait until the numbers on the clock looked the same as the ones on the cardboard...he had a little bin of toys by the bed he could play with if he woke up before that), setting up a DVD player in their room with a kids movie the night before and showing them how to press play in the morning, etc. I think it was in Parenting? Maybe Mothering?
I have heard of a really cool "red light, green light" alarm clock for kids. You set the "alarm" but it doesn't make a sound, it just switches from a red glow to a green glow - so the kids learn to stay in bed until the clock glows green!
If only Eli would actually DO something like that  Maybe when he gets a bit older!
Yeah, I'm not sure it would work yet for Griffin either. I feel like their language comprehension skills just aren't quite there at this age. Probably by 3 or so it could work. And Griffin isn't totally sure which one is green and which is red yet! Still working on colors. The only one he has totally down is blue.
