izzys trip to the podiatrist long...

way back when she was about 6 months old we had seen a bone specialist about her shoulder popping. i also mentioned her ankle to him while we were there. he said we had to wait and see how things look when shes 2 and the bones have had more time to form. her left ankle feels very misaligned to me. its never gave her problems walking she hit all her milestones right on time its just that she does tend to favor that side when shes moving around. i brought it up to our family dr last week. shes not the same dr izzy had when she was born he moved to indy but shes been my dr since i was 14. they did xrays of her ankle and today we saw the foot dr in town.
i was hoping my first impression of him was disorted by the fact that the only time ive ever seen him he jabbed a needle into my heel for a cortisone shot. no not really hes an ***. so he walks in asks me what the problem is. i told him about her being breech and that one leg was up and one was down and we thought back then something was wrong with her foot the way she could flip it way out to the side. he had me take her shoes off and he touched her foot with a pen, moved the other one back and forth with the pen and had her stand up to her back to him. he said yep that ankle turns in pretty bad. shes really flat footed. he asked for her shoe size and said he was ordering her a brace for her "legs". we would have to get a new one each year for her shoes and when shes older she will need special orthodics and walked out of the room. didnt mention the xrays, didnt explain a damn thing, didnt give me a chance to ask questions just left. we already had an appt friday with therapy to take measurements of her legs cause our family dr thinks she has a problem with her left leg clear up into her hip.
im freaking out. i mean she gets around find im just worried about it. her ankle looks like it could snap at the angle it sits. it doesnt go out as far as it use to but it still swings out to the side when she walks. i spent probably 15 mins sitting in the car crying afterward. i feel so bad about this. i had really not thought about it for awhile. she had no problems walking and started before she was a year old. now she needs braces for what sounds like quite a long time. i left a message for out dr after we left. shes not in today. i want them to set me up with a dr either at the childrens hospital in indy or st louis or see if the hospital in terre haute has a peds bone dr. somebody had better start explaining this and what our options are to fix it.

and then there is the talk with my mother. i called to tell her what was going on. she blows me off like its nothing. says she had problems with her legs too when she was a kid and shes just fine now. theres not a damn thing wrong with her im just looking for excuses to take this kid to the dr. im so ticked at her right now but i dont know why i thought it would go any different. this is the same person who thought my first miscarriage was going to take care of itself and by the time she actually took me to the hospital i needed a blood transfusion. am i wrong to be worried about this?

I'd totally get a second opinion, but it sounds like she needs something I just don't think it's a drastic as this quack made it sound.

:bigarmhug: It'll work out. :goodluck:

I agree with Janelle....get a 2nd opinion from someone who will actually talk to you about what is going on and your options KUP :bigarmhug:

I am quite disturbed that he didn't explain things or give you time to ask questions. I'll just say it's never wrong to get a second or even third opinion.

With my own condition the first doctor tried to placebo me (prescribed me a vitamin), second one was logical thought I had pulled a muscle and sent me for physio, that didn't work. Third doctor sent me straight to the ER, then from there I went to several neurologists to be diagnosed.

I agree, get a second opinion, and I think I would call and speak to someone at that office, this is your child and you deserve to know EXACTLY what is going on.

today was the pt appointment for the measurements. went really well. she printed me off the radiology report for her ankle and it says everything is good. she talked to me about what brace izzy would need. she really took a wait and see attitude with it though. the therapist said it looks like izzys body is trying to fix things. if we do decide to go with a brace she recommend shoe insoles to help her arches more. so im going to hold off til the specialist appt and see what he has to say

Glad your starting to get some answers. Hopefully is a minor problem and her leg will be fixed in no time.
