Shaken baby syndrome (Infant Death Mentioned)

I'm sorry to have to share this, but I feel like the more people know the better off we are, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful about who you choose to babysit your children! Sad

A few weeks ago a four month old baby died here in town and everyone thought it was SIDS, this baby (and his older sister and brother) go to the same daycare as where my Savanna goes. At the time that he died, they were at home, with a 13 year old babysitter and the teenager's mom was there as well. The mom of the 3 kids works a job from 2-11:30 at night so she was at work.

Well now after the autopsy it was determined it was Shaken Baby Syndrome. The 4 year old brother has started talking about what really happened and also the teenage girl has started talking about what happened, and the it's all still under investigation, but here is the story that I heard from the mother of the baby.

So it was right around dinner or bedtime (which is obviously stressful with 3 kids 4 and under) and not sure of the exact circumstances of why, but the teenage girl shook the baby. Keep in mind that the mother of that teen was there. The baby started having convulsions and seizures. They decided the best thing to do was give the baby a bath and put him down to bed (instead of the obvious CALL 911!!) 6 hours later they found the baby dead in his bed and called 911 (not sure if it was the mom of the baby or the teenager who found the baby) and neither the teen or the mom of the teen let anyone know that the baby was shaken earlier. They initially ruled SIDS as the cause of death.

I cannot even imagine what this mother is going through, and for that teen and the teen's mom to NOT call 911 when the baby had convulsions, then to give the baby a BATH and put the baby to BED and act like nothing happened, OMG  I just cannot fathom that there are people like this in the world. I hope they rot in H*LL. COLD BLOODED MURDER.

Like I said, be very careful about the people who care for your child Sad

My heart goes out to the mom of the baby. How sad, you can never trust anyone. That is so sad. Sending prayers to the family.

I am at work and balling my eyes out! Thank you for sharing this tragic story. As a future mom, who will have to go back to work, this is just another reason I wish I could be a SAHM. My heart goes out to this mother and family. What a terrible, awful tragedy. I hope she can find some peace in this difficult time.

:lurk:

This is why my Daughter is only ever alone with Her grandparents who watch her. I don't trust anyone else.

I have a 12 year old and a 2 year old, I would NEVER leave an infant or even my 2 year old in her care. My daughter is very responsible but I just don't believe kids that age are capable of properly caring for a child. If I were in the shoes of the woman that lost the child I would be furious at the adult in the house, especially for not bringing the baby to a hospital.
