i figure if there was a place to tell this story, this is it.
i knew i was exclusively BFed, i was told i never had a bottle. i also knew i nursed util i was older than 2, which is why i'm going to try to aim for that mark with my kids. as a personal choice i think 5 is a little old but 2 or 3 is well within reason. anyway.... my mom told me that the reason she BFed was because when my parents got married, the moved on to my dad's parents farm... and it seemed like that was the natural way of things, but BFing wasnt highly supported, and with my older sister she only BFed for 4 months, then had to switch to formula. but she found a buddy (who i have to thank if i ever see her) who supported her when she had me. and my little sister nursed until like 14 months because my mom got sick and it kinda lead to a quick self-weaning.
one of the books i got frm the library explains the history of formula and formula feeding and when my parents were born, less than a quarter of moms were BFing their babies, and none of my parents or DH's parents were BFed :(
i totally give kudos to my mom for BFing me, because of her i BF Ellie and i always just thought thats the way it should be.

My mom breastfed me till I was a year or so. She is very very supportive of breastfeeding and always swaps stories with me.

My mom didn't breastfeed me and gave me rice cereal in a bottle at 6 weeks. I looked through my baby book with her today and found out I was eating fruits, veggies and even meat at Lyla's age (4 mos). I couldn't believe it. No wonder my mom doesn't really understand why I work so hard to keep feeding Lyla the good stuff!

sometimes we have to look back and see what stupid things we did before we realize why we make the choices we do now.

A few ladies at my church were dipping Daniel's binky in chicken noodly soup and I got mad. I told them that I know he looks a lot older, but he's only 4 months old and he's not supposed to have real food until he's 6 months old. They tried to make what they did sound okay by telling me at what age they were feeding what to their kids and I had the same attitude as you all. Just because we did it when we didn't know any better does not make it good. We know better now. It used to be that seat belts were optional in cars. They were considered "features". We know better now. I feel the same conviction on giving food to babies. He's started getting rice cereal to extend his times between feedings, and he LOVES it, but I only give it to him once or twice a week. I just don't feel that it's THAT necessary any more. It doesn't extend his feedings like it's supposed to, but he won't take formula, so when I need a small break, that's what he gets. I am not planning on introducing baby food until 6 months old.

Ellie just cant sit well enough to get spoon fed yet. we wont consider it until she does. The Dr told us waiting until 6 months is fine, and starting rice cereal now is fine. she said it doesnt extend time between feedings for most babies, and probably wont help them sleep throu the night either. but i went and got some first foods and cereal today so that when she's ready, i'm ready.

Hi Ladies -
So I got AF last Friday....what a bummer, I was I would not get it at least until ds started eating foods.... I have EBF for 4 months, but supply has been low so I might have to start giving formula (UGH!) when I am at work...
anyone else have AF already? or am I the only lucky one?

I havent had it yet, but every month I get the bloating, cramps, moodiness and think I am getting it. She never shows though. Its like having a ghost period! hahaha
Zach gets formula once in a while if he wants to eat more then I thaw out while at work. He doesnt mind, but Dh said he definitely prefers the breast milk.

Yesterday was amazing for me and my pump! I came home from work and DH had fed Liam within the past hour so I pumped--an entire 5+oz at once, within 15 mins! OMG! I was SOSOSOSOSO happy. Pumping right now at work and we'll see how much comes out. I must have dropped one of my pump tubes so I'm a one sided lady for now, ugh! I hate doing one then the other, it's annoying. I'm hoping for another 5oz. If that is the case, maybe I'll say my supply maybe increased...for once!! :-)

Yay for successful pumping.
I had spotting back at the end of March, but it was only for 2 days. I, too, keep thinking that I'm getting AF (or I'm pregnant) because I get PMS real bad and other PMS/Preggo symptoms. But so far I've not been even spotting. You know it's on my mind because I keep dreaming about pregnancy tests and other things.
