She sounds like my dd. It took us 6 months to fully wean. I don't know what your plan is, but we started around 18 months with just cutting down the length of each session, I got a timer and told her when it went off we were all done. After a few tries she started to understand, a couple weeks later I could just say "ding, all done" and she was fine then we started cutting out the sessions, one at a time. I knew I wanted to wean her by the time she turned 2, so I made a plan (I'm a planner), anyway, we nightweaned at 20-21 months, and just had "mommy milk" at bedtime, naptime, and when she woke up. I marked on the calendar when each session got cut out (one a month) and showed her every day, and explained it all to her. And the day before she turned 2 was her last day. She asked for it for about a week, then she slowly forgot about it. It was quite the process, but I am glad we did it so gradually, it was what she needed, she couldn't of handled any type of cold turkey.

Well - my son will be 18 months old tomorrow and he is still nursing in the early AM when he wakes up and on the weekends if he is cranky he will ask for it. Been asking more and more since we weaned him from bottles about a month ago. I think it is about time to stop, but my son loves his "BOOOOBBBBIIIESSS" - now he asks by gently tugging on the neck of my shirt, and saying "boobies, boobies, boobies, boobies, boobies, PLEASE boobies" until I give them to him - he nurses a little bit then says "other one" nurses the other side for a bit and donew... funny thing is he gives me this little devilish grin to when I do lift my shirt...
just not sure how to go about weaning. If we are in public or there are people around and he asks I tell him "not right now" and he is usually fine with that, but if I try that at home in his room and just keeps asking and saying please till I give in... so not sure how to start the transition.... DH puts him to bed at night so he never gets milk then, only if he is sick or something - so that is not the problem. The problem is when he wakes up at 5am and i am not ready to get up for the day yet, he comes into bed with us for some mommy milk and we all sleep another hour or two... so I guess until I am ready to give up that 2 hours of sleep, we are still nursing....

At 1 year, 7 months and 1 week, we have ended our booby time :D
It really is bittersweet. I had no idea tonight would be the night, it just happened (or didn't happen). Delaney was asking for her milk from the fridge before bed, so we filled it up half way and went to her room. We sat in the glider and rocked while she drank her milk from her sippy. She was not real interested in nursing, so I went with it. I was kinda sad, but then realized that I could still enjoy our "before bed" time while she sat on my lap and drank her milk. We chatted about things in her room and what we would do tomorrow. It was nice :D
I am so proud of myself for being able to nurse Delaney as long as I did. I truly enjoyed every minute of it :D

Liam didn't have his boo for 2 nights due to him not feeling well but then last night he did for a bit and now today he wants to make up for lost time. He's asked for it 4 times already & it's only 10:21 AM. I don't think he'll ever select to self-wean.

Wow! 20 Months and going strong! Good job, Momma!
I hear you on the feeling like it will never end, though. I hope you and he can find a happy medium. I'm sure he's just wanting comfort because he's getting over being sick.

Well 9/22 I weaned. It was a rough two weeks, but we're definitely doing fine. He still asks for it and I have to be careful he doesn't see them or he wants it. It's so bittersweet. I have had moments where I wished I would have kept on going and then I there are times I'm glad we weaned. It's helped him be so much more of an independent sleeper.

Ellie was never an indepentant sleeper even without nursing- i think they are only related for my benefit. i'm tired- nurse and she'll sleep. if i'm lucky. she almost never wakes me up to nurse anymore!
