Confused by EDD...questions...

As you can see in my signature below I am a little confused by my edd.

I have a question for you ladies: What is the earliest a hpt will give you a bfp? I tested on Easter, 4/24 & that's when I got my bfp even tho it was faint.

Sooo, according to the u/s date (edd 1/06) that means that I would've conceived around 4/15 or so which means I would have gotten my + only a week later. Is that possible?

If I go by my LMP, which was 3/27 giving me a edd of 1/02, that means I would have conceived around 4/10 & my bfp would have come 2 weeks after.

What makes more sense to you ladies? I don't know much about ovulation, testing, hgc, etc. But I do know that my cycle was mostly 29 days w/ a few @ 28 or 30 inbetween.

Thank you all in advance.

From what I have always understood the dating ultrasound is the most accurate date. It measures the size of your LO so you know how far along they are.

For example - with DS#1 I did IVF and knew his exact conception date and what day I got pg, but my due date was 3 days later  He ended up coming closer to my due date that they figured by his size instead of when I thought he would be born based on conception.

With this LO I know my exact ovulation date and LMP and that sets me at 1/1/11. However, after my 6 week u/s they said I'm 3 days later. Implantation could have happened later than I would have thought or maybe my O day is off?!

What I find more confusing is the week count. Like I am 8w4d...so I have finished my 8th week and am in my 9th week - so why not say I am 9 weeks instead of 8 weeks? Sometimes I just have to tell myself to forget about it and know I am due between Christmas and New Years.

If your last LMP was 3/27 and your cycles range from 28-30 days then you would have (presumably) ovulated anywhere around CD 14-16, which was April 9-11. April 15 would put you at CD20, which could be the case, too. The 24th would put you at 9dpo and Angela (juneorjulybaby?) got her BFP at 9dpo.

(I know when I Od due to charting (CD 17) which was April 18, and my EDD is 1/9. My LMP was 4/2 and I would have had a 30 day cycle knowing my o date and my LP length.)

US can be off by +\- 3 days this early. Babies grow at different rates, too. The difference of those days in minuscule and I don't think means much in the grand scheme.

However, some women do get early positives, depending on implantation. I think the earliest I've heard of is 7dpo.

With my second pregnancy the first U/S I had at 9 weeks put me about a week ahead of my due date but by my last U/S at 37 weeks I was almost a week and a half behind my due date. So U/S can be off. With that pregnancy I knew the doctor actually had my due date about 5 days later then when I was pretty sure I conceived but I didn't say anything because that meant if I went past due that I knew I wouldn't be forced into induction before baby was ready. I had him at 39 weeks 2 days according to the doctors date but according to my date it was 40 weeks exact. I say trust your instinct and go with your gut. But if your worried about being induced go with the later date. I also found that the 20 week U/S has always been the most accurate dating U/S for me.

The difference between Jan 2nd and 6th really isn't much. My doctor won't change a due date unless the u/s shows more than 1 week difference because they can be off by a few days here or there. I would just go with what the doctor told you and go from there. In all acutality the baby can come anywhere between 37 weeks and 42 weeks pregnant, so 4 days won't make much of a difference in the long run.

As for your question about earliest pg test- Like Christina said I got my BFP at 9dpo but I have seen 7dpo at the earliest. If it was really faint you were probably in the 9-12 dpo range.

Awesome, you ladies rock!! I'm gonna stick w/ the 2nd b/c well, i want to. hee hee.

Both my girls had to be induced anyways, first one was 15 days past edd!! I don't think my edds mean much anyways.

I was just being curious & you all did awesome explaining it all to me!

IMHO, it's all a crapshoot unless you know exactly which day the zygote implanted. EDDs are exactly that - an estimation. Unless you're going for an induction or a c-section, no one has any clue when your baby's coming.

As for your question "What is the earliest a hpt will give you a bfp?" - the only answer that I can give you is "whatever day your pee has a concentration of the hGc (hCg? I always forget which it is) hormone that the test could read," so it's not really as simple as 8dpo or 15dpo.

Sorry I can't be of more help. :S

Some how I missed the line about your LMP being 3/27 - that was mine too. I got a positive OPK on 4/9 and 4/10 so I assumed I ovulated on 4/10 (cd14). However, my OB thinks I ovulated on CD17 based on my 6w5d u/s. But, as far as I am concerned my due date is Jan 1, just to make me happy. Because whether its Jan 1 or an 4 - my baby will come when s/he wants - not according to that due date. I was so hung up on my due date with DS that I got upset as it approached. So this time I am taking the stance that I will probably deliver between Dec 18th and Jan 14th. That way I can't get too upset if s/he is late and not here by the date I have set in my head.
