cramping

This morning I woke up with really bad cramping that had me convinced I was having a miscarriage. I took some Tylenol and used a heating pad and it eased up. I had it off and on for a few hours and finally decided that it had been a while since I pooped so (TMI) I took some prune juice and a glycerin suppository and pooped. That eased some of the cramping but now I have a sharp stabbing pain on my left side that goes clear through to my back. I was thinking it was just a cyst that maybe burst, I have a history of it, but my mom mentioned ectopic pregnancy. I have a hard time believing that though because I know the day I ovulated and the day I had implantation cramping, 7 days after O, and I'm almost positive it was the right side because all the cramping around those two events was on my right side. But even with all of that I'm still freaking thinking it may be an ectopic. Tylenol gets rid of the pain completely until it starts wearing off then the pain comes straight back. I really REALLY want to avoid the ER especially since the ER for the closest hospital sucks a$$! Anyway, hoping it's just something simple. If the cramping is still like this tomorrow i'm going into the doctor, if it gets worse I'll go into the ER. Oh and I also think I may have a stupid UTI!

I've been crampy as well lately but nothing like yours. I hope it eases up for you and you can avoid the ER. KUP

Cramping without blood is usually OK (related to your body adjusting to the pregnancy) but if it's unbearable then I would definitely get checked out ASAP. An ectopic pregnancy can be life threatening, and even if not, could cause infertility. Good luck, I hope everything works out!

I think your still a bit too early to be feeling anything from an ectopic. I think usually the enormous pain is felt around 8 or 9 weeks. But, anything could be happening.

I get some pretty bad stabbing/crampy pains on my left side but it usually subsides after a few minutes.

I really hope it subsides soon and you can get some relief and ease of mind.

I agree with ectopic pregnancy pains like those coming on later. If you still have your appendix, I would suggest to absolutely AVOID applying heat to your right side, instead you can try cool compresses which will help reduce any internal swelling.

If you've already had it taken out, then of course that won't be an issue. The appendix, as well as your intestines and other organs can become slightly swollen/inflamed and cause pain, sometimes really bad pain.

UTI can also cause TONS of pain in the right side that radiates to the back.

Plain irritation and slight swelling too.

I have been to the hospital for right sided pain twice in the last three years (not during pregnancy) and there was nothing wrong, even though I thought for sure something was terribly wrong because the pain gets unbearable and remains there for hours, sometimes a day or two. So, if you're not sure, I would definitely consult the midwife or OB -- or go to the ER if it's a lot of pain, or doesn't go away with Tylenol.

Hope you check in soon and that it was just something like GAS or an irritated bowel and nothing more.

XOXO

It would never hurt to call the on-call doctor at your OB office. I think the fact that the pain subsides with tylenol (a pretty mild painkiller) is a GOOD sign and maybe things are ok in there. If it continues I might place a call though.

And I had HORRIBLE cramps when I was constipated and/or had a tummy virus last week. I really thought I was losing the baby it was so horrible so I think that was pretty normal.

I didn't think it was an ectopic since it would come and go but my mom always thinks the worst. I KNOW I have a UTI so I'm getting some grapefruit seed extract and cranberry juice to start treatment since the dr's clinic is closed today. I'm also still thinking that I may have had a cyst. The pain is only on my left side so I'm not worried about it being my appendix. If it comes back or gets worse we will head into the ER but as long as it stays mild and is treatable with tylenol i'll just wait to go to the doctor.

How's it going? Any better?

I agree with the others that it's probably too small to be ectopic yet. I didn't feel it until approx. 6 weeks.

Good luck, and I hope you get some answers!

Kridda, Glad to hear it's on the left. I was exhausted, I thought you said right, I may just be losing my mind!

Hopefully it's just the stupid UTI then. XOXO

Hope you're already feeling better! Thinking of you!

Just a question for those that know anything about ectopic pregnancy's, does the pain come and go or is it constant?

I had a cornual ectopic, which meant it wasn't in my tube but rather in my uterus at the mouth of the tube. So the pain might have been different than a tubal one. It was pretty consistent, like a dull ache. It also felt tender to the touch, if you pressed on my belly. Like it was bruised. It didn't stay the entire time (the day of my u/s I felt nothing at all), but the periods of pain were quite long and constant.
