Crazy Appt Today...

Hello ladies,

First off, I want to thank you all for your support last week with the worrying I was going thru. These boards have been invaluable to me over the years of TTC and being pg with my babies. Smile

So, about my appointment. I went in and got my Beta done...then went up for my registration appointment. As much as I complain about the process of military medicine at the Naval Hospital I have to say that the OBGYN and the L&D are probably some of the best clinics there. The intake nurse was super nice and went over all of the standard paperwork with me. We did this a few years ago, so she was able to give me the "cliff notes" version of all the dos/donts.

Then she told me that my Beta came back - at.....28,000!!! I was pleasently surprised and a bit shocked at what seemed like a big number to me. After the registration she talked to the doctor who agreed to run a quick u/s on me just to check things out. We saw a very tiny bean - measuring about 6 weeks or so and a little flutter of a heartbeat. But she kept moving that darn wand around and squinting at the screen. Then she tells me that she wants to see me back in a week for another u/s because she is not sure if there is possibly another bean right next to the one with the heartbeat! I saw it on the u/s screen too but didnt say anything b/c there was no hb...and I just assumed it was part of the baby or something. She said that it likely was NOT a twin pregnancy but wanted to make sure next week by giving me another u/s. She said it might be the yoke sack but that my beta was pretty high for being so early.

So I now have to hold my breath until next thursday morning. Unlike my last twin pregnancy, which was the result of fertility treatment, if this is indeed a twin, it would be an identical twin. I really doubt that is the case and in fact I am REALLY nervous b/c I dont know if I could handle twins...but it is what it is and I know God has a plan. I am holding onto the fact that the doc does NOT think it is a twin...but is just being cautious with the facts that she has at hand.

So, yeah....that was my appointment. Crazyness!!!

Wow, I can't imagine twins, but you'd figure it out if you had too. I had my betas done at 5w6d (by u/s measurements) and they were over 27,000 and I made them look for twins (only one in there). I saw this chart:

Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml

I'm glad you were able to see your LO at the appt. That's nice of her to bring you back next week and you assure you that she doesn't think its twins.

Wow! Crazy that you could have two LOs in there. Twins would scare me too, but I also think it would be very cool. My mom is an identical twin, and she and her sister are soooo close. That would be neat. I'm so glad that you got to see your bean and the heart beat, and that you get to go back in a week to get more reassurance. :):yahoo:
