We are home and getting settled in. We are still working on sleeping better at night, but breastfeeding seems to be going well. I wanted to write up Daniel's birth story now before I start to forget things.
On Friday the 20th we went out for a drive and when we got home I laid down for a nap. When I woke up an hour later at 5:15pm I heard a pop, I knew it had to be my water so I quickly stood up so that I wouldn't soak the bed. I finished packing our bags and called the doctor. She told me to head right in to the hospital. Because I hadn't had any contractions yet I was not really in a rush to get to the hospital, but by the end of the night I was so happy that she had me go right in.
We had to drop my daughter off at my parents house so we headed there first, and then went straight to the hospital which was 20 minutes away. We arrived at 6:00pm. During the ride I started getting contractions every 15 minutes. Once we got checked into the room the contractions intensified. by the time the confirmed it was my water contractions were about 8 minutes apart. They checked my and said I was at 6cm. Then the nurses left, my contractions continued getting worse. Around 7pm I finally saw a doctor, she asked if I wanted an epidural, and I said yes because the contractions were pretty bad at this point She said I was about 8cm. They started the IV of fluids and said that once the bag was empty then I could get the epidural. I got about half way through the bag of fluids before things got really intense. I ended up kneeling on the bed with my husband applying pressure on my back just so that I could get through the contractions. around 7:45pm a nurse came back in the room to check on me and all of a sudden I felt the need to push. She had me lay on my back so she could check. And once I did she got wide eyed and ran to call a house doctor because she saw hair. After about 5 minutes with a flurry of activity in the room everyone was set and told me to push. Daniel Michael was born at 8pm weighing 10 pounds and 21 1/2 " long. My OB rushed in after all the excitement was over, but she was able to stitch up the few small tears. I am happy that this is my last baby, because with only having what was essentially a 2 hour long labor I think I would be too frightened about not being able to make it to the hospital in time if we had another.
I wasn't able to room with him the first night due to his size they had to check his sugar levels. but by the second night they said his sugar levels were fine and he could stay with me. We have completely skipped newborn sizes and are currently in 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. He has lost some weight since birth because my milk just came in, but he should be back up to his birth weight soon. Natalie loves being a big sister, and just loves to watch what he is doing all the time. Nights are rough at the moment, last night he was up from 1 until 6 when I caved and fed him a bottle. The doctor today said that it may just take a few more days to build up enough of a supply to feed him since he is such a big baby. I am hoping tonight goes better because I haven't had more than 4 hours of sleep a night since friday
I will try to pop on more to read everyones else's stories, but the LO's are starting to wake up so I have to run
