Drool

So, I was scrolling through Facebook when low and behold one of my favorite sushi places shares a photo of my favorite roll. Drool!!!! Oh my goodness...it's all I'm thinking about right now.

Any other 'forbidden' loves?

I would have really liked a big McDonald's Coke today but chose the orange instead. Part of the motivation there was that I was sharing it w/ the kids. Biggrin

Believe it or not, I've never tried Sushi. Somehow, I just can't get past the thought of raw fish to try it.

Right now, I'd really like a Subway BLT. Normally, we don't have bacon too often but if it were easily accessible right now, I'd probably be tempted to eat a lot of it. Good thing it isn't. Sad

I gave up caffeine yesterday, and it's a real addiction for me. Sad It has not been an easy couple of days! Although, I didn't get my customary migraine I usually get when I give up caffeine. I want a large coke so bad!!

I love BLTs! I had one for lunch piled high with tomatoes. So good!

I also LOVE Coke!!! Drool!!! I've cut it out and it's not too bad now. My drinks of choice now are water and milk. On occasion, if I want soda, it's Canada Dry.

Don't drink soda more than once or twice a month, so that's no problem.

Sushi...yes, I will miss sushi.

Mostly I'll miss lunchmeat. It's just so easy to make a sandwich with a little sliced turkey, but sadly I'll just have to do without.

Why will you have to go without lunchmeat??? that is something new to me...

Oh the things we do for someone we love and haven't even met yet!! lol

Am I the only one who made the switch to decaf rather than cutting it out completely?

My double shot iced americano was my daily 'treat'. I've downed it to a single shot of decaf.

Feta cheese and bacon pizza. I actually had some a couple weeks ago, and then I remember yesterday that I'm not supposed to eat feta cheese anymore.

Also, tuna fish. I miss it hard. I'm definitely eating only a can a week, but still. That lovely, fishy goodness, with mayo and dill weed on wheat bread. OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Edit - wait, we're not allowed to eat lunchmeat? Is this only the stuff from the deli, or can we eat the prepackaged stuff? 'Cause I had a plain turkey sandwich on white bread yesterday, and it was DELICIOUS.

A cousin of mine checked into the hospital with a 6 pack of Budweiser in a cooler when she had her daughter. She cracked one open while they were doing all the newborn care.

I am a BIG soft cheese fan too!!! But I believe that if the cheese is cooked (ie feta on a pizza!) it will kill any bacteria. Also, most cheese in Canada and the US (including soft cheese) is made with pasteurized milk anyway, so I would go ahead and enjoy that feta pizza. But that's just me.

Same with the lunch meat...the risk is listeria bacteria...but if you cook it (ie on a grill press) the bacteria are killed off with the heat.

I refuse to give up coffee. I cut back to one cup a day. You don't want to see what happens if I cut it out completely. It's not pretty.

Yes - my nurse told me that soft cheeses cooked in something (her specific example was blue cheese in a casserole) should be fine, so I would say that if you want a feta pizza, go for it.

I changed over to decaf and had a headache for a couple of days, but now that is working well for me.

Lunch meat is the one that I'm sad about. It's sooo easy to pack a sammy for lunch. So now I am on PBJ and tuna or chicken out of a can once or twice a week. And yes, I know that if you get lunch meat hot you can still have it, but....the idea of hot lunch meat turns my stomach. (ETA: Except on a grill press - that would be good. But the idea of just like microwaving or boiling lunch meat and putting it on a regular sandwich was grossing me out.)

How risky is lunch meat anyway?

Alissa- I heat up my lunch meat and then put the sandwich in the refridgerator for an hour to get it cold again.

Christina- what about something like california roll? Or a vegetarian roll or something with tempora in it? If the thought of japanese didn't turn my stomach I would order a california roll.

For the original question:

Beer and wine. I have a bottle of wine on the counter (I need to move it) just looking at me from before I was pg. I had already poured out the open bottle when I found out. As for beer- I take 1 sip per week off of DH's beer. I figure one sip on one day out of the whole week is NOT going to hurt baby.

I just had feta on pizza last night. Smile

I read somewhere during my last pregnancy that you shouldn't have soft serve ice cream because the machines are breeding grounds for listeria. Has anyone else heard this before?

I tried for the last 2 weeks to cut it out but the headaches wouldn't stop. So I had a cup today and have been fine so far. I'm back to my one cup a day - but in reality its 4 oz of coffee and 4 oz of creamer, lol.

THIS! I'd rather avoid it than heat it up.

I miss hot dogs! I have seriously contemplated just having one. I'm not worried about Listeria since its heated up, but more the nitrates. Anyone else avoiding them?

I hear ya on the wine sista! I miss having a glass in the evenings. I'm definitely going to miss sangria in the summer too! At least it's not a permanent loss! Smile

Erin,
You can get nitrate free dogs at the store now. My girls love hot dogs, but i've always been concerned about the nitrates, now I feel better giving them to them.

My ob is pretty easy going. She says I can have sushi if I've never had a problem w/ the place I get it from. Also, I have never really worried about cheeses, deli meats, etc.

Our parents used to smoke AT their ob appts, I'm not really worried about a lil food.

Angela - LOL about one sip a week! I think you're fine. How do you heat up your meat? Just microwave it? Does the texture get weird?

Lesley - You're right. My mom said that I should have been born with 2 liter of diet Coke in my hand because she drank so much of it when she was preg with me. I actually ate a ton of lunch meat when I was preg with T - I wasn't super worried about it. In some ways I think that I am going to be a lot less nervous and "by the book" once the baby is actually here, as a second time mom. But in some ways I am a lot MORE nervous and by the book with this pregnancy, I think because of my loss. I know logically that prob a little lunch meat is no biggie.....

....

If you get good quality, it doesn't change texture or flavor. I have seen some cheap stuff get nasty though.

I heat it in the microwave until it has popped a couple times and steams really good when I open the microwave...usually about 30-45 seconds.
