Fluid leaking?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm leaking fluid here....what fun on Xmas eve! I woke up this morning at 6:30am to a small gush, and some clear mucus. Then, during the day, I've had several more small gushes. Nothing major, but enough to get things yucky! It's clear for sure, but I'm not convinced it's my water breaking.

My water broke pre-labor with my first two....and it was obvious. A 'pop' feeling and then tons of fluid! This is totally different. And no contractions, either. I'm just not sure what to do. Baby is moving fine. My m/w is an hour away, and, of course, it's Xmas eve! I don't want to be in labor today!

There is a hospital closer, and I've thought about going there to check, but I feel like if it is my water,, they will want to keep me and put me on pitocin.....something I am NOT willing to do (pitocin or birth here in town). If I call my m/w, I'm not sure what they would tell me, other than to get checked. I don't want to drive an hour to be told I'm peeing on myself, or, again, if it is my water, be told I have to stay, or just to go back home and wait (since I'm doing that anyways). What should I do?

How long is it safe to have a small leak? I'm GBS negative, so I'm not panicked, but I do want to be safe. I guess I should call....I think I'm just in denial. I want to have Xmas eve and morning with my family. What timing!

I would go get it checked out, i think that the time frame with your water breaking/leaking is 24 hours before they start making sure there is no infection. I would go rather to be safe than sorry. If they say its your water then refuse the pitocin and call your m/w and see what she suggests. Keep us updated.

Honestly, I would wait if it were me. No contractions and no big gush would make me hesitant. I would watch it, though. Take it easy and keep track of gushes and when they happen and my activity level.

If you are active and have a small gush, easily discharge.

I read there's 4-5 cups of fluid in the bag so that's A LOT! I think if it was real water breaking, you'd know or at least have an instinct to be worried. But that could just be my take.

I finally called my m/w, after another gush. I'd been cooking and baking for a while....about as active as I get right now!

She said not to worry, since I'm not contracting and it's not constant, and that discharge can get really watery as labor approaches. She said just to monitor myself --- take my temp every few hours, watch for movement, etc. She said even if it were my water, they wouldn't tell me to come in just yet since I'm GBS-. So, for now, looks like I'll just be wearing a pad! If this keeps up, I think I will probably go in on Monday to get checked. I have an appt. on Tuesday, but don't want to wait that long. This is so different from my other two -- I just don't know what to think! Even with my son, who was born at 37 weeks, contractions started about 5 hours after my water broke. It was only about 30 minutes for DD. I always wondered how people could be confused about fluid leaking, and now I know!

I'll keep everyone posted if anything changes!

I had never experienced water breaking before- It was definitely more than 4-5 cups lol felt like a few liters! a big gush at home, a big gush when we got to the hospital and more when they checked me!!
one nurse commented to my dh about why we came to the hospital when i had a section booked in 5 days- he told her my water broke and she was a bit shocked as there was a lot of fluid inside.

when my water broke within 30 min my contractions started- i had never experieced labor, water breaking- very interesting to say the least.

If your midwife is not concerned then it should be ok, but go get checked if you are concerned.

Lurker***. That describes my fluid leak exactly - tons of clear discharge coming in small mucousy gushes. I would go check it out after no longer than 24 hrs. The timeframe is the same as a big leak for sure. Yes they will likely want to induce if it's a leak but it's in the best interest of baby. If you wait any longer they might insist to put baby on iv antibiotics for 2 days following delivery just to pre-empt infection. That's what happened to me and it sucked as baby had to stay in the nicu. Good luck!!!

Mine was very similar. I felt a small gush and went to the bathroom, thinking that my incontinence had just reached a new level. When I sat on the toilet, more came out, but it still seemed like pee. Since my underwear was wet, I put on a new pair, and as I bent down to pull on my pants, I felt another gush. Then it stopped, until I went into the nursery, and it gushed again. The contractions had started by now, so I knew it was time. But no huge gushes, just small ones.

Me again! Still not much happening, although larger gushes last night and today, some with a pink tint, which the m/w said was a good sign. Still no labor, though. Sad

I've been talking with my m/w, and it looks like I'll be heading in to meet here at the office in a few hours. From there she'll check on the baby, see how dilated I am, and probably give me castor oil. The other option is pitocin. (or Misoprostol....which kind of shocked me...since these m/w's are usually into herbs, not medicine...anyways, we're not going there at all). They want me in active labor by 1am tonight, which I understand. (She'll calling 1am last night as when my water 'officially' broke, since i had a substantial gush at that point)

I'm pretty disappointed here, and trying to keep my chin up. I had such a positive labor with my DD -- it was very fast (2.5 hours) -- and it was such a good experience just witnessing my body doing its work. Now I feel like my body is not doing what it should.....I'm dreading the castor oil. I want to labor normally, but know that this LO just needs to get out sooner than later. I'll keep updating, probably not again until after the baby is here!

So exciting!! I hope everything goes positive for you!

The late gushes, especially tinged, would have had me calling, too. So glad things are rolling. I'm sending labor vibes!!

I had a small gush before the BIG gushes at the hospital. It was certainly a TON of water that was inside me but they said people with GD usually have more water than normal. Good luck I would encourage you to go in and get checked for sure.

Good luck! I started getting the blood tinge after a day or so too. I was very disappointed with having to be induced too but it really wasn't that bad. They said my body was ready and I was already having some contractions. Induction lasted 6 hrs start to finish for me. Good luck and ELV!! It's in baby's best interest and soon you'll have your Christmas present!
