Gender reveal party

Anyone planning to have one? I first heard about this idea when I was lurking on the other birth boards here. I think it's a fun idea and am planning to have one. I know my family and most of the friends we I'll invite will like it and will want to come. I've been googling ideas and am trying to figure out how I want to do it.

Have any of you done it before? Are you planning one this time? Any suggestions for me? I want to find a way to reveal the gender without using a cake or cupcake but I think that may be the best way.

Not planning one because most of my friends and family live in different states but we planning something fun for the gender.

We'll be seeing my MIL and my dad the weekend after we find out so we'll be telling them in person with the same thing we'll be sending out to others.

I am planning to either:
1. Make cupcake jars of the pink or blue color and mail out in a mixed gender packaging.
2. Decorated sugar cookies. I gave a bottle, paci, onesie, and baby in a diaper.

Of course, this completely depends on how motivated I am! Wink

You could put the result in a balloon and have one for each person. Each person has to pop balloon and whoever gets the results get to reveal.

Or you could have DS paint a picture and put it on an easel. Cover it until time to reveal.

Oh, you could also have a rigged bingo game or something like that where everyone gets a card and can play.

You could draw numbers/letters that spell out it's a _____ or something about pink or blue color. Toys have to disguise it so they didn't know at the first letter/number but that could be fun.

Or on of the code messages that has a number correspond to a letter and the first to decode gets to reveal. Or even a scavenger hunt! Oh, that could be fun!!

Hey Jenn, here is a link to a blog with a gender reveal party that I think is super cute! They did the cake thing but I still wanted to share:

We're lame. We just text or call friends and family when we find out. We don't do anything creative. Though I think it would be fun to get a bouquet of flowers, more pink/purple for a girl, or blue/green for a boy and send those to our moms. DH just wants me to wear a pink shirt or blue shirt. I think DH's idea is lame. lol.

It sounds like it would be fun but not something I would do, i guess my family and friends really don't care that much! So be it Smile But let us know what you do and lots of pictures I would love to see!

If we find out the gender we are definitely doing this in some form! Probably not a huge party but just a dinner with our parents, siblings, and nieces/nephews. I just explained it to DH and he thought it sounded fun and he said he was still leaning toward wanting to find out.

I don't really want to find out, but dh does. So we might not share the gender, it would be a surprise for everyone but us Wink

Hmmm...I've never even heard of anything like this. I wouldn't do it just because I don't want to go through the hassle of throwing a party and cleaning it up just so I could tell people something that I could tell them on the phone/in person/on Facebook. That's just me, though.

This is our plan. It will be our parents, siblings and their kids. WE have 2-3 couples we would invite but no one that would get the invitation and be like "seriously, give up an evening just to find out your kids gender, no thanks!" LOL The people we are inviting have told us it sounds fun and they are excited about it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am eager to plan it but I almost feel like until I know the gender it will be hard, but I guess not really. I think it would kind of be fun to not know going into the party and we find out there as well, but I know that will never happen. LOL
