Going to the Doctor Today - Spotting - Update Post 17

I had another spot of (bright red) mixed in my CM this morning. It was only about the size of a pencil eraser and I have not had any other spotting since, but I am thinking about the spotting on Saturday (also red) and just freaked out. With my last pregnancy I spotted very lightly for two weeks starting around the 6 week mark, and then lost the pregnancy at 8 weeks, so I am really scared that history is repeating itself. Luckily my OB is able to get me in today at 2:30 and my DH is able to meet me there, so if I do get bad news, I won't be by myself.

Probably it is okay, but I am just so worried. I don't know if I can bear to go through another m/c. Please send me all of the healthy sticky vibes you can!

:lurk: Alissa-I'll be thinking about you today. I know how scary spotting is, especially after a mc. I've spotted with all three of my pregnancies and only one of those turned out badly so I'm hoping you get good news today.

Thanks Ladies. Smile Lenora, I was actually thinking about you today, and thinking about how you had spotting with your pregnancy too, and that it is okay, so I'm trying to focus on that. I wouldn't be so scared except that it is bright red - no mistaking it for "old blood." Sad

It's really hard to pay attention to work today. And the time until 2:30 is draaaaagging.

Sending sticky vibes! I actually spotted and even bleed some with my first pregnancy. Most of it was old blood but there was always bright red blood mixed in. I know how scary it is, I've never had a miscarriage yet but I'm sure it is just nerve wrecking going through this after having one.

Oh no Alissa! I'm sure all is fine but I know how scary spotting can be (especially after a loss). I will say a prayer for you! Also sending lots of very sticky baby dust!!

Update

So at first things looked pretty bleak. They did a vaginal ultrasound, and first the dr found the baby, but there didn't appear to be any heartbeat. I was heartbroken. It was just like the last time I was in that room, when I learned that I had lost the baby last October. Same room, same machine, same lack of heartbeat. Then the dr kind of cocks his head, and goes "I *think* I see the tiniest little flutter right there...." Keep in mind that this is not their good ultrasound machine. When you go in to get real ultrasounds where they measure everything and print out pictures for the scrapbook, you go to their office across town. This is an old ultrasound machine that is still hooked up to a VHS recorder that they have on hand to just kind of check things out if they really need to. The doctor told me that their other ultrasound machine would be able to zoom in a lot more, but this one couldn't. So we all sat there and squinted at the screen, trying to make out the very tiniest of flickers. And by george, we all saw it!

But then that still wasn't great news, because the doctor thought that I was 7 weeks along, and we should have been able to see it better, even on the old crappy ultrasound machine. But then we started talking about dates, and we realized that his date was based off of my LMP which assumes that you ovulate on Day 14, but since I temp and use OPKs, I know that our conception date was more like CD 17 or 18, which, once we sat down with the little wheel, would make me 6w2d which is exactly what I was measuring, and that is why the heartbeat was so tiny and hard to find, especially on a crappy 1980's ultrasound machine. LOL So then he looked and said that everything else looks totally fine - no bleeding in the uterus, the sac was nice and round, the uterine lining was nice and thick, the placement of the sac looks fine, et cetera.

So he thinks that bleeding was...erm...let's see if I remember this right. Subdermal bleeding of the cervix? Basically, something (either BM or throwing up this morning - thank you m/s) caused a little strain on my cervix which caused it to bleed which is scary but not a threat to the pregnancy.

We go in Friday for our regularly scheduled u/s on the good ultrasound machine, so we are hoping to see more then, but our dr was "guardedly optimistic." Okay, I don't like the "guarded" so much, but I get that he is trying to not get my hopes too high, especially with my history, and with the heartbeat being such a tiny little flicker where we all kept second guessing if we had actually seen it. Over all, I do feel better. I think it's going to be okay.

Alissa, I'm glad you updated, I've been thinking about you today. I'm glad to hear the news was mostly positive. My OB office has an old u/s machine in office as well and what you saw sounds just about right for 6 weeks. I hope you get even better news at your u/s.

I know it's scary but just try to stay positive.
