Heard of this one?

I was reading up on gender predictions, etc and found this one:

www.obgyn.net/ultrasound/ultrasound
The gist, for those who don't want to wade through the whole study, is that in a study from 1997-2007 of over 5,000 pregnant women, it was found that:
~ 97.2% of the male fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location on the right side of the uterus
~97.5% of female fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location to the left of the uterus

So you could go in for an ultrasound at 7 weeks and determine your baby's gender with fantastic accuracy!!!
So, dig out your u/s pics, and tell me: was this true for you? NOTE: ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND PICS ARE A MIRROR IMAGE. So if it's on the left in the pic, it's really on the right. (This is not true for transvaginal ultrasound).

Hmmmm...very interesting! I will be asking my doc next Thursday if she can tell me which side it's on.

wow, that's exciting!! I go in a week from Monday for my NT scan & will definitely want to know. I have an image from a 6wk u/s, but it just looks like it is on the top & it was vaginal.

What does that mean?

Uhhh, I have no clue! Biggrin But I would think it's probably more right or more left. A pro could definitely tell you.

I was thinking about it and while I have no idea which side DS#4's placenta was on I KNOW when they listened with Doppler, they were always finding him on the right early on. So I think it worked for him. So curious about this one, now!

Thanks for sharing! This is really interesting!! The u/s tech didn't even show me the other day where mine is so I guess I have to wait till my next u/s!

In another photo it looks to be on the left, which if it's mirrored would mean it's on the right... so not accurate for me unless it's not my placenta I'm looking at.

Cool. I really wonder what the scientific reason for that is??? (will go read the article) I will have to ask at my u/s.

Okay, I pulled out my u/s print outs and I am trying to figure out what all the abbreviations mean to figure out what side the bean is on. I can't tell, it's zoomed in on the baby and yolk sac. Any of you know if any of those abbreviations gives a hint? I am obsessed now!

I wish I knew! I have no idea. I've read that the placenta looks like a white light but I don't know. I think I'll have to pull out DS#4's pics, too.

Looking at past u/s pics I still can't tell and the u/s pics of weeks 20 and up they don't really show all the stuff just the baby. I will just ask next time!

I believe mine was on the left during a transvaginal U/S - so it will be interesting to see how accurate that is.

I pulled out all my old u/s pics and nope, nothing...I can't make it out! You'd think after 4 I would have some idea but nope! Clueless!

Can't wait to ask!

Jenn- I think it's fun, especially when we pair them the baking soda test and the cabbage, for those who did them. Wink

That's interesting! I'll have to pull out DS's u/s pics and look them over.

I had transvaginal with this one and baby is on the right in the pic (so that's really left right? lol)

If it was transvaginal then no, it would be the right - which *could* mean another boy for you Smile

I have 6 children and after looking at all the pics from the ultrasound I have between them all, I would say this is not accurate. It's less than 50% correct with my bunch.

But I'm wondering if this would be a higher accuracy if we found out at the ultrasound what side the placenta was on vs looking at old pics?

Aha! I just looked again and yup it's on the right and now that you mention it the lady doing the ultrasound kept the wand going to the right. I didn't look at Jack's u/s pics yet. This is so very interesting!
