I have encountered this phenomenon more than once by now. A male acquaintance sees that I'm pregnant, and the most "helpful" comment he apparently can make is:
"Kids are great. Of course for the first year, they don't have a personality--all they do is cry, poop and eat, but after that, they're great."
And, more recently from our real estate agent (whose wife is expecting twins, and who already has a 13 year old):
"Kids are great. Well, apart from the first two years, when all they are really is a sack of skin taking up space. After that they start to show a personality and they're great."
How on earth can you believe that your child has no personality until one or two years after birth? Did they ever spend time with their child? I've only heard men say it--is this a man thing?
