Modified Bed Rest--Boo!

I went for another u/s today to see if my placenta had moved up. It has, but unfortunately, my cervix kept fluctuating in length; apparently I have a "dynamic cervix." They sent me to L&D to get a steroid shot for his lungs. They gave me a test for pre-term labour, which was negative and I'm not dilated, so the doctor isn't too worried. But, they put me on modified bed rest until I'm term.

What really sucks is that I'm not finished baby shopping yet. I've got basically everything done but his clothes and all the incidentals, like bottles, nipples, medicine cabinet, bath stuff, etc. My husband and MIL will be doing it for me, but I really want to do it myself. I guess I can do a lot of it online...

Poop.

Could you still go to the store as long as you are sitting like in one of those motorized chairs? just a thought as I have no idea what modified bedrest entails.

Boo for the bed rest- but whatever works to help the bay stay in longer.

Online shopping is fun- and you can find some great deals- just don't go overboard lol

I agree, online shopping is a lot of fun Smile Could you maybe shop a little here and there instead of all in one big trip? Or use a cart as PP suggested.

Such a bummer....but fortunate that it is modified bed rest and not strict bed rest. I could barely manage strict bedrest for the 2 days I was on it. I can't imagine the difficulty of bed rest for 7 weeks.

Even modified is surprisingly limiting, I'm finding. Essentially, according to the doctors, I can fix myself snacks and go to the bathroom. When there is pressure on my cervix, it can shorten to as little as 1.8 cm, so I'm to keep my feet up as much as possible. So no sitting even. This also means that motorized shopping carts are out, if we had them here. As far as I know, Walmart is the only place that offers them here.

And I've already spent close to $200 in online shopping this morning. All necessary, of course. Wink This is going to get mighty dangerous.

Oh, that stinks! I wish had wisdom for you but the one time my doc mentioned bed rest (when I was preggo with twins at 18) I completely misunderstood and kept up my routine for weeks! Boy was he mad when he found out.

I love shopping online provided I can return things to the physical store...your DH can do that part. Wink

Lurker from Feb

Hey there bedrest buddy! lol I was put on MBR as well because I am having lots of BHC that sometimes have a pattern, 1cm dialation and my fetal fibronectin test was positive. I aslo got the steriod shots and the speech about how good mommies stay in bed [which I cant 100% follow with a 2 yr old running around lol] So I feel your pain!

I have found myself watching TV shows I never dreamed of, playing stupid online games...*cough*Plants Vs Zombies is SOOO much fun!*cough* and eating strange combos of food just because I can! LOL Hopefully your online shopping keeps you busy and you dont become a freak like me! Biggrin

Oh you poor thing--I couldn't imagine having a toddler and being on bed rest! Oh, and I'm already a freak. I'm considering getting cable and buying a TV just so I can watch stupid reality shows like Cupcake Wars and Say Yes to the Dress because I've gotten tired of Netflix and iTunes season marathons (it's been a loong boring pregnancy already). My husband will kill me, but he's not the one who's confined to the house! And now, apparently there's this game for me to play...

I'm sorry about the positive test, and I hope your LO will stay in there until its lease is properly up!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you are on bedrest!!! I'm sure that it's unpleasant...but man oh man would I love for somebody to tell me to go to bed and stay there right now!!!! LOL!! I'm exhausted 24/7....and my brain can only generate enough power to follow an episode of Maury Povich!!! (I'm just kidding, and I don't mean to undermine what you are going through....get lots of rest and I hope you feel better soon!)

The game is addicting lol I never thought I would be interested in it but I saw DH playing and I was like Psh I can beat that score! And Ive been hooked ever since...darn my DH.

I too have worn threw the shows and movies on Netflix and Hulu. We have basic cable [6 channels 8 on a good day] and I am ashamed to admit that I have watched Maury, Judge Judy and Divorce Court more often than I should. Thankfully I have managed to avoid the Soaps but I am sure I will cave in eventually and be one of those woman who HAS to catch her drama at 1pm OR ELSE! HAHA

Oh Ive also become a crazed Pg.org and mommy blog stalker...because seriously whats more fun than stalking other pregnant woman? Nothing thats what!

I am so sorry Eva, I couldn't even imagine not being able to do things my own way. =/

It is good that everyone is keeping an eye out for you though. I would rather be aware & take steps to keep that LO in there & cooking than have it overlooked.

You can do it girl, it'll just take some tweaking.

Thanks everyone! And Nicole, don't worry--my situation isn't so dire, and I wish I were more tired so I could at least nap part of the day away! This is purely preventative; I've had no contractions, I'm not dilated, and the test for pre-term labour was negative.

Lesley--I was quite surprised at how quickly they jumped on this after the u/s, and I'm glad. I used to wonder if they even looked at test results before my next app't (they never had them in my file when I came), and I'm relieved to know that problems are indeed red flagged.

Well, it looks like things are a touch more worrisome than they originally let on. I had a follow up OB app't this afternoon and found out that if my cervical length dips below 1.5 cm (I was at 1.8 at my lowest last time), they'll be putting in a cerclage. I have another u/s on Friday to check it.

Oh man. So much for a problem free pregnancy...

I know--I'm quite confused by it. I kept asking to make sure I had understood correctly, but yup--between 30 and 34 wks, their clinic's policy is to put in a cerclage.

Currently, I'm afraid to even walk...

:lurk:

Oh Eva, I just read this when I came by to check on you. I'm so sorry that you're having some issues.

But the good news is that they seem to have caught it and can hopefully get things straightened out so you can bake that boy a little longer!!!

37 weeks is considered full term so you only have 6 weeks and change to go - you can do this!!!

Plus since you're on bed rest you don't need to worry about a bad hair day anymore Smile You are always allowed to have bed head!!

Oh Eva I am sorry. Ugh, bed rest. No bueno, but you have to do what's good for your boy & again, it's great that they are catching these things. Biggrin It is good to know someone is doing such a great job looking out for you & your family.

This is exactly what I was thinking as I looked at my dishevelled self in the bathroom mirror! As most academics do, I lean towards this condition naturally, and now can revel in the fact that no one can say a word. I can be slovenly with impunity!

I wonder how much I could pay for my doc to put me on bed rest?? My kids are wearing me out and making me bananas.

I'm sorry you were put on modified bed rest. My co-worker was on that last year, she called it her "prescribed laziness", but it's frustrating when you don't feel sick and probably gets old quickly when you run out of things to do within your activity restrictions. Is there a book you've always wanted to write or a new language you've wanted to learn...jk. Oh, though now might be a good time to organize any picture albums or start on your son's baby book if you plan on having one.
