Navel piercings

So as my belly seems to be growing, I'm wondering how long I'll be able to keep my current navel bar piercing in. It seems to have a lot of space left on the bar but I'm concerned that it isn't flexible. I bought a flexible plastic navel bar from Pregnancy Piercings but it is super long. Maybe I will need to buy more than one so I can cut them to different lengths. Anyone have any experience keeping a navel piercing through their previous pregnancy (successfully I hope)?

How funny - after seeing your belly shot I almost said "well, probably won't have that much longer". Then again, I didn't keep mine through pg. I had a lap done years after I got it and just in the time frame of surgery and recover it started to close up, so I never reinserted it.

I hope you get to keep it.

A somewhat conservative friend of DH's family commented this weekend on how my belly button was sticking out already. I didn't have the guts to tell her it was actually my navel piercing Wink

Don't know about naval piercings, but I had to take my nipple rings out already. Sad

I kept mine in for the first 10 weeks or so then took it out. Creeped DH out. 19 months after birth i can still put it back in, it hasn't closed up. If you've had it long enough it might not close up.

i still haven't put it back in though.

I kept mine in until I was 30 weeks. You can see the ball barrings in the first pic. The second picture is me at 37 weeks, you can see where the hole is, I could still get a ring through the hole. I put my belly ring back in at 2 weeks postpartum and it's absolutely fine!

my belly button is not pierced, but i bet how long you can wear it depends on your belly button. My belly buttons is VERY deep for some reason. It never "popped" with my last pregnancy. I still had a belly button the day i delivered. I would imagine the more shallow your belly button the sooner you will have to remove it Wink

Yep, it got to the point that wearing a bra was painful because of how sensitive they are. The sucky thing is now they seem to be permanently sensitive, so I'm hoping that doesn't muck up my breastfeeding plans!

My nipples are SUPER sensitive right now...feels like breast feeding soreness did in the beginning and I have no nipple rings or anything. Can't remember if you mentioned breastfeeding your other girls...but in-case you don't have experience with breastfeeding...your nipples should get really tough a month or two into breastfeeding.

I tried, but Thing 1 had breathing issues and couldn't breathe well once she latched on, and Thing 2 had the World's Worst Latch and gave me huuuuuuuuuge hickeys and cracked nipples and got nothing out of it. Once I started bleeding during nursing I called it quits.

I left my belly button ring in for like the first 5 months with my last daughter, although I had the top and the bottom pierced and it left me with a really nasty scar Sad I wish I would have taken it out alot sooner!

Speaking from a "professional" stand point, Ive been a body piercer for a couple years and my experience in dealing with navel piercings is this: If you leave them in after you have already started growing you will develop a scar from the jewlery being pushed on and not giving your skin enough room to grow and a lot of navels will end up looking "saggy". The jewelry that they sell for pregnancy is made of ptfe which is the same material that they make those white cutting boards out of. They are hypoallergenic and I usually put that material in women or men that are have a reaction to the metal until we can get the piercing healed. Its very flexible and is able to bend any which way that is why they use it during pregnancy so that as ur skin grows and moves the jewlery isnt getting in the way as much. If you dont want to spend the money on buying the pre-made jewlery u can just order a roll of ptfe online and use whicheve balls u have or even order some u like and thread them on yourself. If any of u have any questions just let me know Smile

I have a naval piercing and had no problems. I kept it in for both pregnancies- My daughter they actually covered it with sterile bandage for the c- section, my son they made me take it out for the c-section. but i put it back in few days later. I have no scarring at all.
I am interested in the pregnancy piercings... gonna have to look on-line and see what I can find.

So I decided to take the plunge and took out my metal navel bar ring yesterday. I replaced it with the flexible plastic one I got online from Pregnancy Piercings. Other than having a slightly difficult time wiggling in the end posts, it seems to be holding up well. I haven't had issues with it pulling on my clothing. I did cut the original plastic piece into two pieces - one slightly longer than my metal bar and the second piece is a little longer than that for when my belly is even larger. We'll see how this goes....
