This sinus thing...

Is driving me up the freaking wall. I'm used to sinus headaches. I get them aaaaalllll the time. But then I take Sinutab and am done with it. Last night, after three days of constant pain, I thought that I'd screw the switch to C category concerns regarding Sudafed, trust all of your OBs and take one. Until I realized that 1) all I had was extra-strength in the house and that didn't seem wise and 2) the maximum allowed dosage was half of what I typically take; I have developed a resistance to sinus meds over the years and now need far too much than was healthy for baby for the pain to subside.

I've been trying a version of the neti pot, and all it does is dry out my sinus cavities; I never have congestion, only pain, so there is nothing to "clear out."

So I'm considering going back to my fertility and pregnancy acupuncturist, who did nothing for my fertility but actually cured my sinus trouble for over six months. Problem is, he costs $75 a session and I'd have to go every week for it to be effective. Can I really justify over $300/month for sinus treatment? Our insurance doesn't cover it, and while I think I might get a tax break on it, it is still pretty darn expensive for sinuses...

But it huuuuuuuuuuurtttttttssssss!!!!!!!!!! :cryinghard:

Anyone have any ideas?

Eva - I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I use the netipot thing and it tends to work for me, but obviously it doesn't help with the pressure or the swelling. I am still dealing with that.

And now to top it off - nosebleeds every time I blow my nose.

Just know that you aren't alone!

Oh, I hear you on the nose bleeds. Frankly, my nose is a mess. I barely slept last night because of the pain and my constant attempt at dislodging whatever it is that's stuck up there.

I mentioned the acupuncture to my husband. He was very unenthusiastic about the idea, and he typically supports any plan that could help reduce pain. That's my bellwether; now I know it's over the top. Bah.

Thing is, once it fades, I'll forget all about it, but because it's been 4 days by now, I'm a real whiney baby about it.

Im so sorry your dealing with this. I had the pressure headaches for a good 2-3 weeks and nothing working for me, not even the sudafed the pharmactist recommended. Eventually it cleared itself up. Honestly, if you think this is going to keep going on and your ONLY relief is the accupuncture, i would spend the $300. Pregnancy is hard enough sometimes, you done need the added pain of sinuses.

I would say if this sinus pain continues and you have had prior success w/ acupuncture, to go for it despite the out of pocket cost. As a bonus it might save you from any major flare-ups the rest of your pregnancy and into the first few months after baby is born - if that were the case I would consider it money well spent. I had great success with acupuncture helping me with ear tube blockage and pain over six months ago and have not had a problem since (my insurance doesn't cover it either which sucks but it was worth it)

Is there any sinus relief sprays or something you can take? I've only had sinus issues when I'm super sick so I cant imagine.. I hope you get a break soon

Bleh. Day 5...

Unfortunately, no sprays that I'm aware of. Or that are safe in pregnancy, anyway. My husband is about to go out and buy some regular strength Sudafed, of which I will take ONE, and see if it helps. Fingers crossed...

Darn it. He just phoned to say the pharmacist warned him that I shouldn't take it. Now I'm all freaked out, mainly because I'm so desperate that I'm still going to take it... I'm a bad, selfish mother...

...

Oh man, now he's called and, after going to three pharmacies, says no one has only regular strength.

Any recommendations on how to safely chop off my nose???

Bless you...

We have Shopper's Drug Mart here--no Walgreens that I'm aware of. The last one didn't have it either, so the pharmacist advised I halve or quarter an extra-strength. A quarter? Seriously, I might as well just take a Jolly Rancher for the pain and call it a day.

OMG, I'm a sinus med junkie...

Yeah I dont see how a quarter of one would do anything with the way your describing the pain.

I'm sure I'm coming across as if I'm in more pain than I actually am. I have a tendency to exaggerate hysterically.

Well, I've taken the half. Let's see what happens.

I really hope that this boy is made of stronger mettle than me...
