sinuses... OT

The past could days I have been pretty sniffly and very stuffy in the morning, well last night my eye on my left side was achy and then today it was still achy and it was causing me to have a headache as well as the side of my face around my eye to ache. Then a little later I noticed that a spot on the roof of my mouth on the same side is swollen now too. For those of you that have issues with sinuses can they really cause all this? I have a friend who has horrible sinuses and she says hers gets like this too, I just wanted a little more input from others. Also, it really worries me because I have fought with bells palsy a couple times in my past. Once when I was in 1st grade which didnt last long nor did it effect anything but then I had it a couple years ago on my left side and it lasted a while and I still have residual effects from it, you can tell when I smile because my smile is still a little crooked and my eye muscles are weaker on my left side so it squints more than my right when smiling. I am absolutely terrified of getting it while pregnant, I really dont think I can handle having it again, I would be absolutely devastated Sad

I don't have sinus issues at all, but hoping that thats all it is for you. My father in law gets really bad sinus problems but not sure if he has swelling at all. I would check with your Dr to make sure.

I'm the queen of rotten sinuses and sinus headaches. It sounds like it could be sinus-related. Though I've never had problems with the roof of my mouth. It does reach down to my teeth when it's really bad, however. You might want to google "sinus and roof of mouth" to see what comes up.

As for swelling, I've never had it so it's really noticeable, but that doesn't mean that it's not possible. Do you feel pain in your cheek right next to your nose? When you press on the swollen areas, are they tender and sore?

I'd say go to the doctor. Don't take Sinutab or Sudafed, though (one of them is on a lot of doctors' "safe" list, I just don't remember which one); it's no longer considered safe for pregnant women. I really hope you feel better, and that it is only sinus pain!

When I was pg last time I had all kinds of mouth swelling and splotching issues. Your body does weird things when pg.

As far as sinus issues - its also so common in pg. I do take Sudafed (I didn't know it was taken off the safe list, but my OB recommended it).

Right now I have had lots of sinus swelling so I am just using a neti pot daily and waiting to deliver. I figure that's the only thing that will clear it up for me.

I do agree though, ask your OB.

I think this is very, very recent. My OB never gave me a safe list, so I looked it up on safe fetus and it said category C. I was really confused, because I knew it was on safe lists. I finally asked a pharmacist and they said it had been moved from B to C. But if OBs are still suggesting it, it can't be that bad.

It's been so bad for me that I'm considering pre-natal acupuncture for it, although it's incredibly expensive. When I went to a fertility/pre-natal acupuncturist for lining and ovulation issues, he could do nothing for my fertility but did cure my sinuses for a good six months. Unfortunately it came back a few months after I stopped seeing him.

Yeah the whole area around my nose and around my eye was very tender to the touch yesterday. I asked the pharmacist and they said I can take the suddafed and I took 2 yesterday but none since. I actually feel a lot better today. The swelling was on the roof of my mouth and still is which it tends to do that sometimes even when not pregnant. My face wasn't noticeably swollen but I'm guessing it was yesterday because it seemed tight feeling on the side that was sore.

Yup, that sounds like sinus pain. I'm glad you found some relief!
