I haven't really had much time to get on here since Spencer was born. 2 kids is definitly busier then 1! Things are going really well for us. Spencer is such a good baby... has a few hours of awake time during the day and (knock on wood) sleeps 3-4 hour stretches at night. He is a much easier baby then DD was. Anyway, here's his birth story.
Baby BOY Spencer Matthew
Born Jan.9th at 11:53pm 8lbs 11oz, 21 inches long.
I had my 39 week appt. on Jan.9th in the a.m. She checked me, I was already 3cm and she also did a membrane sweep. I went home, had some lunch, went and got groceries, picked up DD from daycare. My neighbor had invited us over for supper, so we went next door to eat. While I was there I started having mild contractions. (around 6pm) My neighbor insisted on timing them, even though I didn't think too much of it as I had been having BH contrax for weeks. Anyway, it turned out they actually had a pattern to them, 7 minutes apart. Within 45 minutes the contractions were much strong and really becoming painful. We decided to go home and try to get DD into bed early. DD insisted on me putting her to bed, not daddy. While I was up in her room doing our bedtime routine (brush teeth, read book, lay down with her til she falls asleep) my contractions were now 2 minutes apart and so painful that I actually started crying. I didn't want to scare DD, so I jut told her that mommies belly hurt and that we were going to have the baby that night. After she fell asleep, I came downstairs and told DH that we had to go to the hospital NOW. Our neighbor was suppose to come over to watch DD, but she was tied up with getting her kids to bed and couldn't come right then. I started to panic because I knew how intense these contrax were and they were one on top of another. I thought i was going to end up having my baby at home! I made DH call his brother to come because I really couldn't wait for my neighbor. ONce his brother arrived, we left for the hospital. The drive was awful... my back felt like it was breaking. Once we got to the hospital (around 9pm), they took one look at me and said I didn't have to be triaged, that I could just be admitted. My nurse checked me, I was 5 cm. I asked for my epidural right away, however the anesthesiologist was in the OR so I had to wait about an half an hour. When I finally did get it, it only took on my right side and I could still feel everything on my left. :/ It took a few adjustments but the epi finally worked. Once I was feeling less pain I was able to joke around with DH. Since we still didn't have a name, we googled some baby names and chatted with the nurse about our kids. At 11:25pm I started having a lot of pressure, nurse checked me, I was fully dilated and ready to push! The OB on call was across the hall delivering another baby, so I had to wait a few minutes for her to come. She came in at 11:35 and I began to push. I asked for a mirror so I could see what was happening. The pressure was constant and it burned so bad. I loved having the mirror, it kept me focused during pushing. I could see the progress with each push. Baby boy Spencer was born at 11:53pm, after only 17 minutes of pushing. He came out, and they annouced that it was a boy. I cried. It was a great moment. They put him on my chest and left him there for about an hour before they took him to weigh him, etc. I got to nurse him right away. It was a wonderful birth experience. Here's a few pictures of my little man:
