infant carrier/car seat

I know it's still early but I'm trying to decide which one to get so I can watch for sales. I had a Peg Perego Viaggio with DD1 and 2 but got rid of it because it would have expired before any future babies were born and I didn't want to move it. I liked it but hated how heavy it was. I really only use the carrier until they are tall enough for a convertible seat (about 6 months). So what infant carriers do you have and do you like it? Does anyone know of a convertible seat that fits a newborn heightwise? I would love to bypass the infant seat altogether. Thanks!

We had the simple graco for our son last time, and I think we would do that again, because it is expensive and safe. I guess I was very used to carrying it around. The stroller I have traditionally seems to go with a Chicco car seat - but there is a Graco attachment - and buying 2 Chicco car seats and 4 bases is somewhat unappealing.

Convertible car seats are not as safe as the infant ones, so I would not start out with that. We had the Britax Roundabout for our convertible seat and I liked it though, DS who is 3.5 has grown out of it because he does not have enough space with the bottom buckle. The Britax Marathon goes up to 70 lbs. I plan to take a look at those. We also like that you can easily take the Britax seats on airplanes- found it is easier to control your child at 35,000 feet when they are restrained - even if getting the seats on the plane is difficult.

We typically use the Graco Snugride infant seat. We need to buy a new carseat and stroller because we had originally thought Cameron was our last. I've got a set picked out, but we are waiting a bit longer to buy it.

This is the set we're going to get:

We had a Graco stroller with the infant carrier with it and will use the same.

We used a Graco Snugride 35 with DD until she was about 7 months. Then we switched to a Graco Myride 65. The snugride was comfortable to carry until DD was around 7 months for me. As far as I know, most convertibles can fit newborns of 5 lbs or higher so you don't technically have to use an infant car seat.

Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward the Graco Snugride this time. Glad to hear that others have liked it. Most convertible seat list weight ranges starting at 5 lbs, but they don't actually fit newborns since the lowest strap setting is still higher than the baby's shoulders.
