More bedrest for me

I had my ultrasound today with the maternal/fetal specialist today. Turns out my placenta had torn away from the uterus in one spot, which is most likely what has been causing the bleeding/cramping. She said that it looks like it is healing by itself, but there is still a small pool of blood right by the opening of my cervix. Also, my cervix has shorted since my 19 weeks ultrasound.. it was 4.5cm at 19 weeks and is now 2.5cm at 24 weeks. Anything below 3cm mean your at rick for preterm labor. So I'm stuck on bedrest for another 2 weeks, then I will have another u/s to reassess. I think I'm gonna go crazy.. I've only been on bedrest for 4 days and I'm already bored to tears. :help1:

Oh Amanda :bigarmhug: I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this. I know how hard bed rest is, but try to think of the long term goal (baking baby as long as possible). I know that is redundant but whenever I get down about bed rest, I try to think I'd rather do that then have baby in the NICU.

Are there any shows or book series you've been anxious to get into? That always helped me feel a little more sane on bed rest. KUP

Sorry to read your bad news. I know it could be worse, obviously, but that is a big blow at just 24 weeks..

I know I would not tolerate bed rest well either.

Yikes....sorry to hear that you have to continue your bedrest. Hopefully it will help do the trick and your placenta tear will heal itself completely. Please kup!!

Amanda I'm actually about to go to an ultrasound to check for the same issue and I pray my cervix isn't below 3 cm because I CANNOT do bedrest. Yesterday during an internal it showed the baby was really really low but my cervix was closed but she couldn't get a good measurement of my cervix because baby's head was so low. Hope you get better soon and get off bedrest

Ugh. I can so sympathize for you as I have been there. I had 12 weeks of bedrest with a previous pregnancy. It is beyond boring. I thought I'd read a lot, but I wasn't feeling very well and ended up just mostly cruising TV channels and movies and surfing the internet (laptop).

I am also in healthcare, and I sort of wish I'd taken advantage of the time and done some online home study (we need cont. ed to renew our licenses). For nursing, could you do something like that?

It is so difficult, but now looking back, like a lot of the pregnancy discomforts, it seems forever at the time. But once you get the little one at the end, it is so, so worth it.

It also helped a lot to have visitors. Encourage friends/family to come over! It will really cheer you up and help pass the time.

Good luck!

I totally agree with Kara on the visitors! It is so isolating being on bed rest that having company, or talking to them via video chat/the phone really helps. Hope you're adjusting okay.

Thanks for all the encouragement ladies! Bedrest sucks, but so far I haven't had anymore episodes of bleeding or cramping, so it must be working. Thank goodness for daycare! I don't know what I would do if I had DD home with me all day. DH has been superdad, doing everything for DD, cooking meals, cleaning, etc. My parents are here for a few days to help out too, which is wonderful just to have someone to talk to during the day!

Well then I expect you on our chat thread more often then! Biggrin

Do you have Netflix? We live off Netflix! Start watching Bones, Once Upon a Time, Louie C.K., The League, Archer, Law and Order SVU, the original Law and Order (God knows there's a hundred seasons worth!).

Find some Christmas ideas on Pinterest! Recipes! DIY stuff you can do when you get off bedrest!

Start reading Game of Thrones, the Shopaholic series, anything by Emily Giffin, hell Danielle Steel, the True Blood books (Southern Vampire mysteries by Charlaine Harris).

Just some ideas that would take some time because there's so much of it in each season/series.
