My water broke

Hi ladies. My water broke this morning. I'm only 30 weeks. They've hospitalized me and I'm here to stay until baby is born. It is unlikely I won't go into labor in the next 3 days, but it does happen sometimes after a rupture. We are hoping I'm one of those few who just stay stable for weeks, but we have to wait and see.

They gave me my first steroid shot and I get another tomorrow. They have me on antibiotics and are monitoring me pretty closely. Good news is I'm not having any regular contractions. I'm having them, but they're mostly light and really spuratic. Please send positive thoughts our way.

On Cindy I'm so sorry you're going through this ((HUGS)). Sending prayers and positive energy your way!

FWIW I was born at 28 weeks under the same circumstances and have virtually no health complications to speak of from it,but I can't imagine how terrifying that must be for you. I hope they're able to get baby to bake for as long as possible!

I'm soo sorry Cindy, must be crazy scrary! I thought when your water broke, you had 24 hours to get baby out or infection could happen? I must be wrong if they are trying to keep baby in...
Good luck and thinking of you HUGS!

This is what I understand...

When the membranes rupture this early they have to balance the need to keep away infection with the need for the baby to develop a little more. She is on antibiotics to hopefully stave off infection. Plus the steroids can make a big difference and this gives them some time to work. This condition is more common with twins pregnancies... so I read a lot on it earlier in my pregnancy.

Thanks Tiffany for explaining this to me!!

The other thing about water breaking is that sometimes it's a small enough break that they can keep you on hospital bed rest and let the pregnancy progress though as Tiffany said, it's a matter of weighing the risk of possible infection with the ability to bake longer.

Hoping everything is going as smoothly as possible and you're both doing well Cindy!

Update-

Things are getting boring, which is really good. Smile My sugars went a little haywire after the steroid shots, but they're leveling out now. No contractions and baby is looking great.

Like Tiffany said, they have me on a TON of antibiotics to hold off infection. No infection so far. I'm continuing to produce and leak lots of fluids, so it was a big break, but I guess as long as you don't go into labor and you don't get an infection, they like to keep baby in for as long as possible.

I guess there are some women who can stay for months with their water broken. :/

Since I went past 3 days without starting labor, I guess it's a big milestone and it looks good as far as my not going into labor anytime soon. They still have to monitor baby and me a whole lot, but I might just be able to stay here and keep baby in for a few weeks. Here's to crossing our fingers on that!

I spoke with one of my doctors the other day and she said if I'm still pregnant at 34 weeks, they'll come in and talk to me about delivering. 34 weeks is a good place to be as far as premies go. The neonatologist came in yesterday and told that even if my baby was born NOW, she'd have a 99% chance of survival, which was really comforting to me.

Anyway. I'm in the hospital to stay until baby comes. Smile I'll keep everyone posted as things come up, but hopefully it stays really boring for me for a really long time!

I'm SO glad things went so well! I agree that getting past three days with no more labor is a fantastic milestone! I hope you're one of the ones they're able to keep cooking until 34 weeks! I know it will be extremely trying being on rest and away from your oldest daughter for so long despite the obvious health benefits to your youngest.

Thanks for the update, we're rooting for you and your little lady!

Good news!!! So glad you wrote back to update. Every day counts and those steroids are already on board doing their job. I know there are websites with chat rooms for moms on bed rest. Hope you get some friends to visit you. What are you planning to do to pass the time, now that things are boring. Smile

Tiffany- I've taken up crocheting. LOL I crocheted a bit when I was on bedrest with my daughter, but I guess I have to relearn it cause I TOTALLY forget. It's doing a good job occupying my time. Plus I have internet, books, and Netflix.

My Mom comes to visit with my daughter during the day, then goes home and my husband brings her by at night for dinner. My husband is spending the night with me every single night until baby comes, because he's amazing like that, so if there's an emergency in the middle of the night I'm not alone.

I've also had some friends come by and call. My brother is stopping by tomorrow.

Between all that and all the nurses and doctors checking in on me every couple hours, I'm pretty occupied and don't get bored enough to get depressed. The nurses are also really chatty, which helps. Smile

How awesome that you have such a busy schedule considering the rest. How sweet that DH comes to stay with you each night, that must be a huge comfort.

It is so great that you have so much support and you get to see your little girl every day. I think having DH spending the night is a huge thing and I am happy that you guys can make it happen. Once you get your crochet skills back you will have to post some pics of your projects.
