Question about bottles....

For those of you who will be introducing your LO to a bottle, which one are you leaning towards? With all three of the other kiddos, we've done the Playtex Drop-in system, and I really like it, but the liners are an added expense each month. Money will be tight for the first few months, so I'm trying to decide what system I want to go with and I got a free sample of an Avent bottle. I don't know much about it. Just curious as to what you are thinking of doing??

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Playtex Ventaire wide bottles. They're the same nipple as the drop-ins but you don't have to buy the liners. Both my kids ended up using those ones.

I like the Dr. Brown's too but cleaning them is such a massive PITA.

I tried the Vent-Air with Addison. I can't think of the term right now, but with the drop-ins, we used the brown nipples instead of the clear. The kids seemed to eat better out of those. Do those same ones work with the Vent-Air tops? I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

I used Dr. Brown's with DS, and they worked really well!

Emma nursed almost exclusively, but when we did need to bottle feed we used Avent or Tommie Tippie close to nature because each have a wide base so they're more like the breast and we used the slowest flow per or LC to also mimic BFing. The Tommie Tippie had a lot of parts but both were good as far as not creating bubbles much.

I haven't used dr. browns but I have heard great things about them!

Yes you can use those with the vent-air bottles. DD wouldn't take the clear silicone ones either, so I just switched the nipples to the brown latex ones and she took it no problem.

We liked the avent bottles. I think they have a new one that is like dr browns. We should still have a ton of avent bottles so will likely try that first. Later we liked the old fashioned gerber bc luke could hold it himself.

Thanks for all of the replies!

Amanda, thanks for the tip! That would make a strong case for the Ventaire bottles Smile

A warning of the Ventaires- try to buy them in person and not online (not an option I have- they don't sell them anywhere remotely near me). The Ventaires on Target's website are the prior, original tiny-little-vent-piece-you-have-to-make-fit and aren't BPA free unless you get the normal sized Ventaire.

Diapers.com (who I LOVE) sells them but if you buy the clear ones, be careful what you wash them with because they'll stain. Jason once washed 9 crystal clear Ventaires in the dishwasher and he never, ever deep scrubs plates or such before washing. He washed it my spaghetti sauce pan :(. . they were all ruined to look at. They worked, they just looked like crap.

OH! And I haven't tried them but I will with this baby- MAM anti-colic bottles. I have heard awesome, awesome things about these. I use MAM pacis so I'm gonna give them a shot.

Good to know. Thanks Taylor! I was just talking to DH about ordering. Our WalMart does not carry the wide ones, so I'm hoping our Target will.

I did see the MAM bottles at WalMart. I thought they looked interesting. I guess I'll have to look around when I've got some time!

We used the Avent bottles with DD1 and liked them for breast milk. Once she was switched to formula I hated them. In order to mix the formula you had to use the flat sealing thing to shake it and then switch to the nipple otherwise they just leaked everywhere. I even called the company because they were leaking so bad and was told that the bottles were not meant to mix formula in with the nipple attached. Not a huge deal, but it was a pain, but they were the only bottles she would take. With DD2 we use the Playtex dropins/Ventaire with the wide nipple. This ended up being the only bottle she would take and overall I like them. I have found that the plastic rings in the bottom do start to leak after awhile but I think they can be replaced. I'm hoping this next baby likes the Playtex bottles too since I already have an abundance!
