I am late posting this, but our little man made his arrival last Saturday, January 12 at 6:24pm. We had a successful homebirth, but came very close to an unassisted birth because Darian's head was out when my midwife came running (literally) in the door. I'm working on writing up the birth story now and will post it when I'm done. The short of it is that I had contractions every 15-20 minutes on Friday and then on Saturday morning woke up with them 12-15 minutes apart. I was in denial until about 3pm because I'd had prodromal labor for 2 weeks, so I kept waiting on it to stop. Active labor kicked in at 3pm and we called the midwife at 4 whenever we thought the real deal was actually happening. She had a 1.5 hour drive to get to our house. I got in the pool and made it through transition before I realized what was even happening. Before I knew it, I was pushing and was yelling for my sister to come in the house (because I wouldn't let hubby leave me) and call the midwife on her cell. They had me pant and blow for a few minutes hoping she could get here, but it wasn't happening. I HAD to push. My water broke with the 2nd push and I could feel Darian's head coming through my pelvis. It scared me because the midwife wasn't there. I was pushing on my hands and knees in the pool and before I knew it, I was pushing his head out. Once his head was out, the contractions stopped (I think because I was scared) and the midwife came in the house as soon as his head emerged. It took about 45 seconds for his body to be born because his chest is actually bigger around than his head by 1/2 inch. He was perfect though, great color and apgars 9/10.
To everyone's surprise (except mine because I knew how big of a baby I was carrying!), Darian weighed 10lb 14oz at birth and he is 23 inches long with a 15 inch head and a chest circumference of 15.5 inches!
Oh, I only had a tiny 1st degree tear!
Sorry the pics are enormous!
