Swaddle or not
Is your baby sleeping swaddle or not?
DH and I argue about this. I prefer letting her loose, she loves having her hands beside her face when she sleeps.
DH wants her swaddle tight so she doesn't wake herself up with her hands. On the other side, I think its good she tries to soothe herself by sucking hands??
Ciara was about two weeks when we stopped swaddling her at night because she would always kick herself out of it.
We swaddle for the same reason your husband wants to. Reagan will wake herself up with her hands if she is not swaddled, and then she's ticked off! We swaddled Cameron until he was 7 months old. It was a comfort thing for him. Even during the day when he was a bit older, when he would scream bloody murder, we would swaddle his arms, and it would instantly calm him down.
Can you swaddle with one arm out? We sometimes do sometimes dont. Not sure it makes a difference. Letting caleb, the breastfeeding one, sleep on my chest works at the end of the night but is a sids risk.
With Emma we would swaddle with an arm out as that way she had the best of both worlds in her mind. With John we swaddle with muslin blankets so he can't kick out of them as easily. He sleeps much better when he isn't batting his hands at his head constantly. He is a heavier sleeper as far as noise goes, but he startles easily.
My DD would NOT sleep well unless very tightly swaddled and we had to continue until she was about 8 months (at which point she learned to roll over in her swaddle so I stopped doing it in fear of her getting stuck face down). My DS did fine in a loose swaddle - just needed to calm himself down enough to doze off and then he usually managed to get his hands free. But by 5 weeks, we were able to stop swaddling altogether and he'd sleep just the same. Just my experience...it was a lot of work to swaddle as long as I did with my DD so anything I can do to avoid that is a plus but if it's the difference between the baby waking up and not, definitely do it tight. Whatever it takes for sleep!
Heidi fav position to sleep is on my chest (lying chest on chest). I know it's not recommended to let them sleep on their stomach but during the day and evening, she's pratically always sleeping on my chest or someone else's (DH, my Moms)....
At night, I put her in her bouncy chair. She won't sleep directly lying down on her back so at least I can sleep in my bed at night while she's in her bouncy chair....
Again, I know not recommended but I need my sleep too....
SIDS does scare me but I'm doing my best. I won't put her down on her chest at night when I'm sleeping.
Does anyone else's LO get really mad when swaddled?!

I haven't tried it since, but I'm tempted to as we don't have many muslin blankets that can easily contain him. Last night he slept in the "touchdown" pose most of the night but I think that may have had more to do with his shots then not needing to be swaddled. If I don't swaddle him, he has a much harder time getting to sleep.
I now swaddle Heidi at night and so far so good! She doesnt wake her self up no more with her hands. Plus sh startles really easily so its better for her to be wrapped. DH wins!
