Default Things You'd Never Buy for Baby Again

The getting ready for baby thread had me thinking about products that were just useless or just didn't live up to the hype. Of course everyone's preferences are different, but there's plenty of baby stuff out there that is just silly.

BTDT moms, what did you buy/receive that you didn't end up using or found wasn't up to the hype?

FTMs - Have you received anything that you just don't see yourself using for whatever reason?

I found the following a waste of money:
    Diaper Genie
    Special ear cleaners
    Changing table
In bed cosleeper (way to bulky for anyone to get cozy)
Baby wash cloths (I cut up blankets)
Baby tub especially the ones with "showers"
    Bottle props
Steamers for pacis and bottles...a pan of boiled water works JUST as well lol
    Baby shoes
Crib sets...idk why but I just dont see the point until they are older

    ITA with your list Ashley!

Another thing I would never get is something like a bundle me or any sort of car seat cover that you have to thread through the straps -- it's totally unsafe and interfers with the car seat safety. They have ones that just slip over the seat so baby is covered but it's not altering the straps safety. Same situation with snow suits. Unless you're going to put it on them after they're out of the car seat.

Things that I found were a waste of money:
Wipe warmer- totally dried out my wipes
A hundred million blankets people gave me.. I think I used the same 2 or 3.
Any kind of bottle/plate/spoon etc. from dollar store because they can't go in the microwave or the dishwasher.
Crib bedding- It's really only for looks cause I don't think I ever used my crib comforter set at all. I will use the same one I had for DD for the new baby, just because it looks pretty in the room.
Sleep positioners- have them but never used them... a rolled up receiving blanket does the same thing

Things that I LOVED and couldn't live without:
Breastfeeding pillow- used for much for then just breastfeeding!
On the go bottle warmer- the kind that has the chemical in it that you snap and gives you instant heat.
Hooded towels- we still use them for DD
    Electric breast pump
Video baby monitors- I didn't have these for DD and I wish I did! I just bought them about a month ago and I have one camera set up in DD room and the other in the baby's room. This way I can check on the kids when they are crying and see if I REALLY need to go in the room, or if they will settle on their own. With DD I found that I would rush in her room when she was crying, but half the time she was just crying out in her sleep, and by me going in, it would wake her up.

I agree with the diaper genie. It was a PITA to change....much more convenient to throw in the garbage. I also did not use a changing table. I just kept a few small baskets in various rooms with diapers, wipes, and cream for changing time (mostly in my room, the living room, and the nursery).

Oh the blankets! I love a good baby blanket but I have a tub of barely used blankets DD got that are just sitting in her closet.

I should have thought to make it a love/hate thread.

I too use rolled receiving blankets instead of a positioner. Works great.

Video monitors are so worth the money (if you have it to spare) IMO. We are excited that we can upgrade ours for around the same price that we paid for DD's two + years ago and get two cameras so we can have one in our room and one in DD's for when the kids are napping. Makes checking on them so easy when you're out of the room.

We love good hooded towels too, but I definatly think it's one of those you get what you pay for items in that so many of them are paper thin.

We love a good car seat cover for winter. It's just a matter of getting one to fit your car seat.

Boppy/BFing pillow and a Medela Breast Pump are godsends in my book. Same with the nipple shield but most people don't need those. As hard as it was to wean DD off of it, it saved our BFing.

The fleecy/blanket sleeper gowns and outfits with the mitten covers are big in my book too!

I'm surprised no one else loves their diaper genie!! We love ours. We keep it in the bathroom and it works really well at keeping things from smelling. LOL We're even going to get another one for upstairs since we'll be changing lots of newborn diapers in the middle of the night.

The waste of money items for me-
Recieving blankets. I used swaddlers and warm clothes.
Changing table. The couch or bed works just fine with a blanket.
Wipe warmer. Regular wipes work fine. :P

    AWESOME buys for us-
    The diaper genie.
Bottle cooler for on the go.
    Boppy.
Carseat warmer cover thing, kept Sophia nice and snug!

I've never had a diaper genie, but I've used one before and didn't like it either. The baby bath tub was a waste IMO. We always just use the bathroom sink and counter, then the bathtub with a small amount of water--works just as well and doesn't take up any extra space. Changing table...we just sit on the floor, bed, or couch, depending on what room we are in.

    Must haves:
boppy--I used one for 4 out of 5 of my kids and loved it
car seat cover to keep the wind out of baby's face--since most of mine were born in the cold months
    hooded towels
    stroller--for me a double
baby monitor--we just have a basic monitor and it works great for us, but a video one would be nice so you don't have to enter the room unnecessarily
receiving blankets, but not 50! I probably have that many now...

Lol i knew about the diaper genie im not a fan if it bc it looks tooo complicated!! Lol but like the wipe warmer i didnt know they dried out the wipes i thought they knocked the chill off !! Ughh !! Well soo far one of my fav items is the vics humidifier esp because he will be in our room and i often get stuffy at night as well so we both will be using it ! Lol !! I also wanted the bundle me as well but if it interferes with the safety of LO then im not for it !

Lurking* Thanks for the list. Im a FTM too, so this is helpful. We have a diaper genie already that we use for bathroom trash, bc its the only trash can my dog can't figure out. Lol.

Im surprised so many of you like your boppys. 3 of my friends with kids all said they preffered regular pillows or the breast friend pillow.

So most of you seem to prefer the video monitor to a regular one. This is my toughest decision...a lot of peope say the angel care monitor is great if your a worry wort like me, but the video monitor sounds great for the toddler age.
