This one that is just a cover is safe. This Bundle Me is where things get unsafe.
That's the hard thing with aftermarket products, they aren't safety tested.
Glad our FTMs out there are enjoying the list .
I thought the boppy was useless... so there is one vote against the boppy. We did not warm our bottles; baby got them cold or room temperature. We did not warm the wipes.
My bob stroller got the most use.
I liked the foam thingie for the bathtub... I bathed my son in the bathtub and shower and we used ours a ton. But never once used the baby bathtub. Not once.
I think I am close to ready to splurge on the video monitor... one that can handle two cams, but I haven't bit the bullet on it yet. What I would really love is one that I can hook up to my iphone or ipad. They exist. That way I can peek in on babies at home while I am working.
We never needed a car seat cover living in Texas... but will need to look into that now that we are living in the cold.
I love my boppy pillow, but I've actually heard my brest friend is better. Don't think I'll find out since I'm trying not to buy too much new stuff this time around.
I have a diaper champ, and it is great. I love it. You can use regular kitchen garbage bags, it is easy to change and keeps the diaper smell out of the room. I still have it in my son's closet since he isn't night trained yet.
Buying my own breast pump was also totally worth it. I work part time and was still able to nurse, and it is great for when you just want to give baby a bottle, or someone else does if you need to go out or whatever. I ended up supplementing formula after about 7 months also, but kept nursing up to a year and got so much use of the pump. I know I will this time too.
Good to hear about the foam thingie for bathing. I hated the baby bathtub we had and never used it. I think it leaked too and we threw it out. Foam pad it is. We bathed the little ones in the kitchen sink a lot anyway.
We have to get a new infant seat since ours has expired. Any opinions out there on the weight limit? When we bought our old one, there was only the option for up to 22#, but now I see they go up to 35#!. I can't see myself lugging around a 35# baby in the infant seat anyway, but was thinking of getting the one that goes up to 30#.
As an alternative to the Angelcare monitor we had the Snuza monitor. It clips on the diaper so you can take it with you, which was important to us as we were traveling quite a bit with baby. It is also cheaper than the Angelcare (around $80 I think). We used it up until about 8 or 9 months when baby started sleeping on his stomach (it's no good for that). I absolutely loved it!
We did use the baby bathtub a ton by the way. We had one that sat over the sink so we didn't have to lean over the bathtub which is hard on your back. We used it until he could sit up on his own in the tub.
Another thing we used a lot is sleep sacks (with swaddle attachment when he was small). He's still in a sleep sack at one year old and will be for a long time.
My must haves:
Wipey Warmer LOVE for winter especially since we use homemade ones during the cold months
Blankets, I use them for everything just cut them to size after they've finished there original purpose.
Moby and Sling
I really dont need much with a newborn lol I babywear, boobiefeed and cosleep. Ive been dubbed the family hippie LOL
I like the lists that have been going so far.
Things I didn't use:
Most of the decorative blankets I got at the shower.
Snugli front carrier- thought I would like it but the straps were just uncomfortable and I think my boobs were just too big, wound up making a moby wrap.
A massive amount of clothes- This one I am posting because my sister tends to over buy clothes for her kids, they grow to fast and she still had brand new clothes that never got worn, not to mention 99% of the stuff in her storage room is clothes (which is good if I want to borrow some but the money she spent even if every piece was on sale EEP!) DS was in footed sleepers and onsies most of the time, and when we went out I usually stuck to the same eight to ten outfits.
Things I used alot:
I am one of the few that likes the baby tub we lived in an apartment with a small shower stall and I didn't like bathing him in the kitchen sink.
Someone bought DS a thick fleece dinosaur costume since he was born a few days before halloween, we wound up using it most of the winter when going out because it was warm and awesome. I don't think we will get a dinosaur this time, the the full fleece jumpsuit is a must.
I also liked the car seat cover (not the bundle me kind) on snowy or rainy days.
We liked our tub too. We had the typical plastic one and a mesh one that just sat in the tub and gave support. We liked both for different reasons. The fleecy bunting suits are great IMO for cool weather as it covers everything, keeps them warm and doesn't interfere with car seat safety. We are going to buy one for this LO soon.
I love love LOVE my boppy, loved my breast pump (but I was working last time, not sure I will use it this time around), sleep sacks are awesome, I love my snugli carrier I coul never get my Moby tight enough to feel comfortable wearing it,
Diaper Genie is useless, I just put dirty diapers in a shopping bag then in the garbage....NO SMELL

I put my shopping bags from the grocery and such into one large bag with 2-3 dryer sheets to make them smell pretty lol Perfect for tossing dirties!
If my hub would get on the cloth diaper train with me, we could avoid all the diaper crazines!
