I had my first appointment today. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have had one until 10 weeks or so because that's when my midwife does the first one, but I already had an appt scheduled for a pap, so this kind of got rolled into it. This was also with a MD, not my midwife.
I'm somewhere around 6 weeks by my LMP, so he did an ultrasound to see what we could see, and it turned out not much. There was a gestational sac, but no yolk sac and no fetal pole. He said that on physical exam, my uterus feels closer to 5 weeks than 6 so he's thinking that I just O'd a little later (which makes sense, I have 30+day cycles) and he said he's not worried at all. He said the gestational sac looks really good, not flattened or thin or anything so that was a very good sign. He did blood work too to help me feel better. I go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
I can't comment on that because during my last pregnancy I had two ultrasounds, one around 12-14 weeks and one closer to 20 weeks. I am sure this happens. I do not go in for my first ultrasound until 7w2d and I think I am ok with that. Hopefully we will be able to see a heartbeat then. I can understand how you would be nervous, but I am sure this is a very common experience.
I haven't had this happen, but I know people who have. I agree with the pp that because the doctor wasn't worried, I wouldn't be either. I think the big thing is that your uterus feels like it's 5 weeks and with that matching the u/s more I'd feel pretty confident. Hope the next two weeks fly by for you!
The same thing happened to me with my 1st. My doc drew blood to check my levels that day, and then 2 days or so later... they were going up, so then a week later he did another US and sure enough, there DS1 was... a tiny little tad poll. He is now a very active almost 6 year old. hang in there. I remember how anxious I was that whole week. Praying that you are in the same boat as I was
