Update on me & my family . . .

Hello ladies! The last 2 weeks have been eventful at our house... First, we have Alivia. The kids are recovering from being sick...FINALLY! Then I get sick, and Ben gets sick....we get on meds and start to recover. Then on Monday, we clean up all the Christmas stuff and DH takes kids to the arena to go horseback riding and Jenna (8--DD2), got kicked in the stomach by a horse...which resulted in a ruptured spleen and a nice long stay at the hospital. First and foremost, she is doing okay. Her labs have been coming back good--levels are holding steady and she is improving. We are so thankful that she is okay and that it wasn't worse. So we have been spending our days in the ICU with her. My parents came to help with the other kids. DH took more time off work, and we've decided that we pretty much need to switch off at home and at the hospital to spend time with all of the kids at some point during the day. We have great friends and family and neighbors who are all willing to do anything to help, so we are good in that department, but it just wears on you eventually. This is day 3. We will make it and she will be okay. I have been posting updates on FB every day. I will try to update here as well...if you all are interested. If not, that's okay too.

Here is my post for today:

*Jenna, Wednesday, January 2*
[h=5]Jenna had a bit of a rough day today. She is such a trooper though. Her strength amazes me. She was pretty sore today, and she didn't want meds because they make her sick to her stomach. She was allowed a clear liquid diet today--so apple juice, water, popsicles, jello. She ate a little bit of jello, but mostly drank apple juice! Yay for progress! She had a bit of a fever today, but that is normal for her body to react to the "trauma" (as the nurse put it). We gave her a sponge bath and washed her hair in her bed...I think she felt a whole lot better afterward. We painted her toenails and fingernails hot pink... She tried to sit up a bit to color, but that didn't work out yet--and it was very discouraging to her, so I started reading a book to her instead. We took naps and tried to keep her mind off the pain. We finally got her to accept pain meds tonight. I couldn't leave the hospital until I knew she was doing okay. Tomorrow the dr. is hoping she can move around a bit. We are making progress! [/h]

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry to hear about all that you and your family are dealing with. I will say a prayer for your daughter's quick recovery and for your strength to make it through this challenging time. I was wondering about you and when you would post pics of Alivia, now I see you been a little busy. I will continue to check for updates on you and your family if you have time to update.

QUICK UPDATE this morning!!!
I got a text from Ben this morning that Jenna's labs came back good today--they are IMPROVING!!! I am so happy!
The doctor came in and said that they are going to try and get Jenna up and moving a little bit today...and maybe remove the catheter. Thank you all for your prayers! I KNOW they are working!

UPDATE Friday, January 4, 2013
Jenna had a GREAT day! She got up and walked a little bit this morning. She got all of her IVs out of her right arm and she got her catheter out! When I got to the hospital, she was sleeping soundly in a chair. She ate a little bit of soup for lunch, and then she got moved out of ICU! Hooray!! She walked down the hall to her new room. She was in a bit of pain afterward, but she is such a trooper! We brought Shay and Dallie up to see her for a little while. I think that was good for all of them. Cami and Hayden will be up to see her soon. Around 430ish, she got up and took another walk. She had started eating some crackers, so I asked if she wanted anything else to eat...I asked if she wanted ice cream. She said no...until I told her we could make a root beer float! So she had some, but then she wasn't very hungry for dinner--for which she requested macaroni and cheese. Smile She was in good spirits last night--acting more like herself. We are so thankful she is doing so well! She is still on oxygen and has been working on her breathing exercises (which she hates, because it hurts). Counting our blessings!

[h=5]UPDATE on Jenna
Hello everyone! Jenna is doing so well! Yesterday she went walking a few times--3 or 4, I think, and she got to take a real bath! So exciting! She got to see her big sister and had some friends come play a game with her. She got her last IV out (it ended up being bad)...she was afraid she would have to get poked again, but the dr. said no! YAY! She ate some real food and started drinking a little more. We are so pleased with the progress she has made. Her spirits are high. This morning the dr said we are shooting for coming home TOMORROW!!! We are so excited about this! It does mean, however, lots of walking and breathing exercises today. We need to be done with the oxygen. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, love and concern for our family!

I bet it is wonderful just to have everyone together again. I know it felt wonderful here. I am sure all this has been more than enough excitement for your family. I second those thoughts on how brave your little girl is/has been.

I"m so glad she's home and on the mend! It's got to feel great having her at home and I'm sure she's most comfortable there too.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! It is so nice to be home with everyone. We are trying to adjust to all of the changes that have come to our family, but really just counting our blessings and taking it one day at a time. jenna is doing so good...the hardest part is getting her to understand that, even though she feels good, she is still healing and has to take it easy. And, for her, this is SO hard as she is our most active child! We had to pull her out of tumbling for now...we will prob wait and start back up in the summer or fall...she is bored and wants to get out, but we are doing well.
