I'm curious to see who uses a white noise app/machine/toy for their baby to help them sleep? What do you use? Why do you like it?
With DD, we used one that had a projector and played lullabies or ocean sounds. She didn't care about the projection and only liked the ocean sounds. It was nice but died last year. Then she had a fan going until a few months ago when she said she didn't want it anymore.
I really want to give DS a more structured bedtime routine as we didn't do that for a long time with DD and it was okay as it was just her, but I want him to be able to go down on his own easier then she did. I am thinking of getting a sleep sheep as I like that it has a lot of sound options and can play for so long. Anyone use one before? Right now we just use a fan for DS.
We just use a fan. With DD we used the fisher price ocean wonders thing that hooks onto the crib, but when the music would stop she woke up, and when we turns on the fish with the lights, it was too distracting. So this time around we will just stick to the fan.
I have a white noise app on my iphone. I leave it running by them. We also use rock n plays, swaddle, bath time each night before bed. We aim to have them down 12 hrs before wake up time. Pacis if they will take them.
We have a sound machine but it doesn't seem to do much for her. She responds well to music, so I think we are going to her a lullaby cd and try that. She has been sleeping 4-5 hrs at night in our bed, but I am ready to start trying the crib and we need a good routine too!
I agree that routine is key. John likes music, but doesn't always respond to it as far as settling down to sleep. We sing to DD when we put her to bed, so I thought for sure John would like that having heard it in utero for so long. Just proves every kid is different.
We got a sleep sheep yesterday (they just happened to be 10% off at BRU). The "rain" one sounds a lot like a fan at lower levels so John seems to like that. Now it's just a matter of getting a good (consistent) routine down during the week when DD is up and DH is still hours away from being home for the night.
