Default Bad news (*updated with better news)

I had the ultrasound with the high risk OB today and they found the baby to be on the small size along with reduced blood flow in the cord/placenta. She didn't say it but I'm pretty sure she was eluding to possible IUGR. So?I got a steroid shot (owww?in the butt! It stung!!) and go back tomorrow for another. Then another scan Thursday to see if it was a fluke or if the blood flow is still low. If it's still low, I may have to be induced as early as this weekend. I'm a complete basket case right now. I'm off work the rest of the week. I have nothing ready?.I just called my midwife as I'm lost?.

Not the news you needed! Hopefully it was just the angle of the scan and how the baby was positioned or something. Fingers crossed that Thursday brings better news! In the meantime, GROW BABY GROW! We're excited to meet you, but not yet!

And if you do happen to be induced, don't worry about not having stuff ready.. baby will spend a little time beefing up in the NICU, I'm sure, so you'll have a little time to get all that stuff ready you need.

    Hang in there, mama!

Oh no, that sounds very scary! I hope your ultrasound on Thursday gives you more information, and I hope that maybe it was a fluke. There are certainly possibilities that ultrasound techs make mistakes (I once was told I had a low placenta, then I went back shortly after and the tech said there was no way I ever had a low placenta) Anyways, measurement errors can happen. I hope it all works out in the end, I will be thinking about you!

Good luck! I hope it was a mistake.

Use the time you have to get ready. If the baby is born this weekend, they will likely be in the NICU for a bit. It feels horrible while you are going through it but at least at this age, you are just waiting for them to grow/learn to eat.

Thanks everyone. I think the shock has worn off that baby could be here this weekend!!

We hit up Walmart and got a few things that I didn't think I would need for a hospital birth (a robe, some pads, some small toiletries, slippers). What sucks is we have NO clothes really either, so we got a few NB sleepers and onesies just in case. What sucks is our washer is still broken so I can't wash anything!

I do hope they find that things have improved come Thursday, but I suspect that even if they do I will be put on bed rest for the remaining time…. I'm going to have to make some calls tomorrow (HR at work) to verify a few things as well, specifically whether I will still get my bonus if I'm on mat leave or sick leave early. I don't see why I wouldn't as the fiscal year ended Oct 31 and I should be entitled to my bonus for last year, and mat leave/sick leave still means I'm technically an active employees (I think). Stressing about that as that bonus was what we were relying on to survive on until my EI payments came through and buy baby things. It's being paid Dec 23….

DH was supposed to drive with his parents to New Brunswick this weekend. But I don't think that's going to happen anymore. They were going to use our car too but we couldn't get the winter tires on (and they need them legally to drive through Quebec) and now the money we set aside for that was used for hospital/baby stuff. I'm not sure what they will do but I think we need to let them know we can't help and will need our car.

I know everything seems very scary, and it sounds like you have a lot of added financial stress on top of things. But things will work out. And babies don't "need" a lot, so get by on what you can reasonably afford. A car seat, a place to sleep and a few onesies/sleepers are really enough at the start, plus there are so many places now where you can get used newborn clothes (Kijiji or facebook consignments) for super cheap, like i mean less than $1 per piece. I hope your bonus comes through for you, I would think they would have to pay it out to you, since you already earned it.

I hope this is just a false alarm.

if your baby is born now, you won't really need clothes. While in the NICU (well here anyways) the babies wear diapers and hospital shirts.

Thanks again. I'm just so unprepared for what I would need to go to the hospital with. I looked up some lists online and went with that for now….

I just wish baby was more active this morning. I'm more hyper aware of baby now and paranoid that something is wrong. At least we see the midwife today and get to find out what happens from here. Then off to the hospital for shot #2!

I was going to look up side effects of the shot because (TMI) my bowels have been a little loose and the urge to poop a lot has been going on since last night. I know that can be a sign of labour too. I have IBS though so it could just be the stress causing it….
