You know why? I just found out yesterday that while I'm on mat leave I'm still legally considered an employee of my company and I'm still entitled to my 3 weeks of vacation in 2014. And that vacation time allotment starts January 1, 2014!!
So, what I'm thinking now is that I'm making December 31 my last day and then taking my 3 weeks of vacation as of January 1 (well, January 2, since the 1st is a holiday) so that takes me to January 22. My EDD is January 23. If baby doesn't arrive by the end of the 3 weeks, then I start mat leave. If the baby shows up before the end of my vacation, I can save it and use it at the beginning of 2015 before I come back (if they let me). If they don't let me do that, I get 4% vacation pay back from the company.
Yay! So happy!
