Default Measles/Chicken Pox exposure - FML

So, I have a weird issue that I have no immunity to Measles, Chicken Pox, or Rubella. I've had vaccines multiple times but they don't stick. I've been to two of the best immunologists in Ontario and also had a complete genetic panel done by Sick Kids hospital and my body just doesn't build the immunoglobulins to make me immune to them.

I knew getting pregnant I would have to be careful and steer clear of anyone who might be ill with these items. But generally exposure to this things is very rare. I don't know anyone who has had either measles or rubella ever and I haven't know anyone to get chicken pox in 20+ years.

Well guess what? My co-worker just got back from vacation and he was just sent home with a mysterious rash. He already took allergy meds and it wasn't going down so he's off to the doctor. My co-worker mentioned something about him not ever having had Chicken Pox before. But there's also a measles outbreak in a city 2.5 hours to the east of here (what if he has family there and was visiting?)

I'm freaking a bit right now. I will call the midwife shortly as I know exposure to either can be really bad. But I also know there's not a lot I can do or say until we know what he has. He wasn't near my desk this morning but we share an office area and doors and kitchen so who knows what he touched that I may have touched!

What are the chances!! Seriously!! FML!

Talked to my manager and left a message for my midwife. As of now, I'm working from home tomorrow unless I hear otherwise. My manager is going to email me when she hears back from my co-worker after he sees the doctor.

If it's not something contagious, I will come in to work.

If it IS chicken pox or measles, I will likely have to work from home for 2-3 weeks until it's confirmed that anyone exposed doesn't have it and anyone who was ill is recovered.

Thank sucks. I am not 100% sure but I think it is in the first trimester when exposure is the worst. I have no anitbodies to CP either - had them twice and the vax...

    Hope all is well.

Well, apparently it was just a really bad allergic reaction he had to something so he's back in the office and so am I. Now I need to call my midwife back and let her know as she left me a message after I went to bed (I passed out at 8:30 because I was so tired, I don't even remember DH coming to bed).

Hurray for allergies! Ok, that sounded weird, but you know what I mean. Glad you don't have to worry about the potential exposure!

I got exposed to shingles at work while pg with DD2 (not even a patient, but a visitor of one of my patients), and had to go through testing to make sure I was immune, and I was, thank goodness.

That's such a bummer that your body just won't build the immunities!

In a twist, it actually turns out he had poison ivy!! I guess his doctor did some kind of swab test and the results said poison ivy! Crazy!

i know risks are scary all around, especially with your first, but remember that the human special managed to survived thousands of years of measles and chicken pox before vaccinations and even if you did get it that doesnt mean anything bad will happen for sure, its just a chance nobody is willing to take anymore.
