swollen feet again

It's worse now. I just called my midwife to see what she wants me to do. I thought maybe it was just my feet widening and ligaments loosening, because my feet always just felt fat since last week, but today the swelling is popping out of the top of my shoes and my ankles feel funny when I try to stretch or bend my feet.

This is how my foot normally looks (yes, I take pictures of my feet....it's a weird obsession of mine):

Ye-ouch! Mine looked like that at the end of my first pregnancy. Do they go down at night?

They go down a bit but barely, and they haven't gone back to normal at all since it started last week on Tuesday or Wednesday I believe. They've been almost this swollen for over a week now, today the worst.

I figured this wouldn't happen until the end of pregnancy, not at 17 weeks!

How's your blood pressure and blood sugar?

I had the same questions.... blood pressure and blood sugar and important to keep track of during pregnancy, especially when you get water retention like this. Hugs! I hope your doctor will see you and check it all out.

Well, I talked to a midwife at my clinic from their non-urgent/questions line. She said not to worry too much and keep and eye on it. My blood pressure has been fine the last 2 visits and new research indicates swelling is not related to blood pressure. I've never had my blood sugar tested in my life so I have no idea if it's good or not. We've had on and off warm weather here so that could be it.

She just said to put my feet up as much as possible when I can and when they see me in two weeks we can go over if there's anything I can do. Obviously if it gets worse to call them again. She wasn't too concerned as I don't have swelling anywhere else, just the feet so she thinks it's just related to the heat and because I work rotating shifts and walk a lot on my commute to work.

My doc told me the same for months... It was the ONLY sign I had of pre-e until I was in severe danger.

Hey. My swelling was caused to Pre-E and I'm surprised they haven't taken it seriously. That's not something you want to take lightly since it could be bad and it is better to take charge of it early. I would have them check it out just for piece of mind.

Yeah.. I'm not sure the lady on the phone understands the severity of your swelling. That's not a normal looking swelling to me. Anyway you can go in and show them?

or go check your blood pressure at one of those machines at drug stores?

That is significant swelling! I would definitely have that checked. My feet never swelled like that(not to say it can't happen) even at the end of my pregnancy in August! I could be nothing to worry about, but I would want to be seen if it was me.

Well, that was an interesting turn of events! Last night my dog ripped off one of his nails at the base (at 1:30AM) so we had to take him to the emergency vet. Didn't get home until 4AM. I was so stressed about that I completely forgot about my feet. However, this morning they do look much better, not pre-pregnancy but not puffy. I forced myself to sit with them up all last evening so I guess that helped. And because I slept on the couch with the dog after 4AM, I was forced to sleep on my left because of how the couch faces so that probably helped.

Unfortunately, I backed out of a funeral today for my step-dad's brother who passed away Tuesday morning. I wanted to go support my parents but with the swelling, and the dog (have to watch him 24 hours after the sedation), and it being my only day off I know I need to rest with my feet up. They understood but I still feel bad.

I admit though, I'm a little worried about this week. A hot spell is coming so I hope that doesn't make it worse again. I just need to remember to sit down more and force myself to put my feet up.
