Another quick PT question

So last night Lexi pottied in the potty Yahoo it was just a few tinkles but she did it and got a sucker. So Jared told her that if she poops in the potty she would get a Barbie. Guess what, tonight she sat on the potty and went poop! Jared took her to walmart and bought her a Barbie. She pooped again when she got home and got a sucker. Then right before bed she tinkled again and produced a tiny turd (another sucker)

SO, here is my question. Do I give suckers for every little tinkle and tiny turd or do I only give suckers for actual "full on" pees??? I don't want to over praise but I want to make sure she keeps going.

PS I'm going to get a prize bag of little prizes for pooping since she can't get a barbie every time. Smile

PPS She totally initiated the potty training this time. SHE told me she wanted to sit on the potty last night!!! BONUS!!!!

PSS There is never anything "quick" about my posts are there ROFL

We rewarded everything at first. Now we only reward for poo if he hasn't gonne in longer than 24 hours, because we have poo issues where he is afraid to go if it goes too long between. DH is more apt to reward him than I am, but it's not like he's got cavities or is overweight. During valentines day it was 1 candy heart for pee, and 2 candy hearts for poo. I personally hate suckers, so I stopped that reward system as soon as I could. . .they are just a sticky mess.

Great job Lexi! I would reward her for any attempt at this point because it will keep encouraging her to keep trying. I'm on day 3 with Josh and on the first day I rewarded him with stickers for sitting on the potty, peeing on the potty, flushing the potty, and washing his hands. After each time he went I would celebrate with him by blowing up a balloon and dancing with him while giving him praise. At the end of the day he got a celebration cake with ice cream. I found yesterday that he even started forgetting about getting stickers and stuff and would just go without any incentive. I am still rewarding him for trying to go poop on the potty.

The very first week or two I rewarded for everything. But then Russ would come ask for candy, I'd tell him no then he would go to the potty and squeeze out the smallest amount of pee. So I cut off rewarding for every poo and pee.

I think it depends on the kids - my sister was a big believer in rewards so it was "pee-for-candy" at Auntie's house. But I did a few stickers in the very beginning but stopped.

Great job Lexi!!!

We rewarded every time in the beginning then we rewarded randomly so he didn't expect it every pee. Now he doesn't get anything for going pee since he's consistantly going. We still reward every poo because he HATES to poop on the potty. When he has to poop he asks for a diaper! Once we get that consistant we will taper of that reward too. I think it hurts for him to poop because he cries pretty hard and has to hold our hands.....I feel like I'm helping him deliver a child because i have to say, "push push, you can do it!!" I need to give the doc a call, but that's a whole other issue!

We started with reward for doping anything on the toilet, but it was like half a piece of chocolate, Im not big on too much crap food for kids...
That lasted about a week, then we changed it to just poo's...for a half a piece of chocolate...That lasted a couple of weeks, with only one poo a day I didnt mind half a piece of chocolate a day...
Then it was changed to going a whole day without any accidents...that lasted about a week...

We have been accident free since he had diarrhea when we had the tummy bug, and before that it was a few months...

Now we just have to work on overnight...we have weeks of dry nights and then we will have a period on wet in the morning...

Loving the toilet train kiddo...ONLY ONE MORE TO GO!!!!!! ARRRGGGHHHHHH

Whe we were trying in the fall we just did one smartie or a sticker. I put "Drew's Potty Chart" on the wall and he was super motivated to put stickers on it and carried smarties in my bag and he was completely satisfied with only 1 little piece. We have actually stopped PT though b/c he as not motivated at all at daycare so she was not motivated at all to train him at that time so we will try again once baby is here!
