Family Vacation

Ok Ladies I need your help! We are trying to decide on a family vacation and just don't know what to do. We thought about Disney World but the time that we could go would be super busy there so we are nixing that idea. I've read about Sesame Place in PA but don't know if it would be worth the trip (ie, the kids would love it but is there anything for DH and I to do). Everytime I search for ideas it give me "all inclusive beach resorts" that have daycare for 1 and 2 year olds and all the fun stuff is for kids 3 and up.

SOOO....any one have some great ideas for families with a 1 and 2 year old? The plan is to have a baby next summer so there won't be a vacation so we kind of want to make it big. Smile

What about something like Yellowstone? We took my neice when she was about Lexi's age and she loved all the animals.

We do lots of beach trips. Of course that's easy for us since we are driving distance. Tyler has been begging for the past month about going. We usually stay in a place that has a pool so they can do the pool or the beach. We try to go to places that have aquariums and extra things like that for the kids. We love the Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach, SC has lots of extra stuff too.

Megan I don't know if your kids are into trains, but there is Strasburg Rail Road in PA. It's in Lancaster (Dutch country). It could be fun for kids of all ages. Thomas the Tank makes an appearance there in June to pull the train. They have all sorts off events.

I was at Sesame Place once Braden was almost 2, and it was really fun for him. You could always go to the Jersey Shore for some of your vacation, then spend a day at Sesame Place. Then of course, if you decide to head west a little, there is always Hershey Park. I have season passes, and could get you tickets at a bit of discount. Our big family trip is going to be in Disney World the beginning of May. I'm hoping since schools aren't out yet, it won't be too awfully busy.

I still haven't made it to Sesame Place - maybe a quick trip this summer and to the Please Touch museum in Philly. Doing Disney in October and can't wait that long for some fun!

We went to a beach in Florida last summer before Drew turned 2 and it was great! We just stayed at a hotel right on the beach that had 2 nice pools and it was so much fun.

I have never been to Strasburg Railroad, but we saw Thomas the train last year at a train station in MN and it was awesome! There were tons of activities when he was there!

Jackie and Mari-

How far is Sesame Place from Lancaster, Hershey and Philly? We would be taking a week long vacation and might possibly drive. If we drove we could do a day at Sesame place and then go hit more of PA. I would LOVE to take the kids to the beach also!

Amber- Utah still isn't out of our minds either Wink I ordered some travel info and it came with a phamplet to some museum with a dinosaur, Lexi has "claimed" the dinosaur and says she wants to go see it.

Megan- I would say that Sesame Place in Langhorne Pa is about an hour and a half from Lancaster, about 2 hours from Hershey Pa and maybe 30 to 45 mins to Philly. Depending on how long you guys are planning on staying it's totally do able. Growing up we have gone to Sesame Place.. I loved it as a kid and my parents took us there many years so they must have liked it. I am looking forward to taking Joshua there as well..

That's not bad at all!

Ok I have to tell you guys...when I posted this thread DH was sitting next to me and started freaking out "WHY are you asking your board? Do they really need to know about our vacation?" I looked at him and said,

"I have friends on here from all over the US. Jackie and Mari are in PA so they would know what's fun there. Carrie is in Texas so she knows what to do there. Erica is in Chicago, Amber is in Utah, and Bobbi is in Oklahoma. They all know what is great about where they live so OFCOURSE I'm going to ask them! They can give us ideas that websites can't."

He looked at me and said, "Oh, well that's a good idea"

ROFL after 3 years of this you would think that he'd understand by now! ROFL

Megan they will never understand.. although Dh has said will you ask your preggo board friends how they potty trained their kids.. I think he might be getting sick of changing diapers LOL

I added these parks to Lindsey thread about PA. Maybe they might interest you as well..

These are places that I went to growing up... I really like Knoebels.. It has a lot of rides for children that are our childrens ages and no admission fee.. you can either pay by tickets or do the pay one price..

These places aren't big as some amusement parks, but are geared towards family, which I am a huge fan of.
If you decide to do the beach as well on your vacation to the east coast, Let me know and I can give you info on clean NJ beaches.

Megan - I was going to suggest UT but TBH after living here all these years I still don't have very many suggestions on what to do here. There are a couple dinosaur museums, a children's museum, a lame zoo, lots of hiking and outdoor type places (i've never been to them), a minor league baseball team....

I still wanna take Jenna to Sesame Place. If anyone decideds for sure to go there, let me know when you're going! I'm not quite sure if I can swing it with the Disney thing happening next month, but you never know!

I live between Greensboro and Chapel Hill.....central NC. I grew up on the east coast though. A little over an hour from the beach, but about 3 hours from the Outer Banks. I LOVE it there. Where exactly are you guys going?

My husband has lots of family in Chicago and we talk of making the drive every now and then. We are going to try Disney in June to see how the 9 hour drive goes before we test out the 14 hour drive!

Corolla is where we usually go when we head that way. My favorite area of the Outer Banks by far!
